§ 01Overview

What the DHI-IVSS7016-4M is

The Dahua DHI-IVSS7016-4M is a 256-channel WizMind Intelligent Video Surveillance Server, an all-in-one AI surveillance platform rather than a conventional NVR.

It combines a dedicated GPU, deep-learning algorithms and a network video recorder in one rack-mount unit, purpose-built for large-scale AI analysis.

It accepts up to 256 IP channels at resolutions up to 24MP, with 512 Mbps incoming and 384 Mbps recording bandwidth, and is designed for integrators and enterprise sites rather than plug-and-play home use.

Its AI runs both on the device and on cameras: face detection and recognition against a database of up to 500,000 faces, ANPR with large plate databases, video metadata for people and vehicles, and IVS such as tripwire, intrusion, crowd gathering and loitering.

The GPU lets the server analyse many channels in parallel, so it can perform tasks like multi-channel face recognition that a standard recorder cannot.

Three HDMI outputs support 4K display across multiple monitors for a control room.

Storage is enterprise-grade: 16 SATA3.0 or SAS bays take up to 16TB per drive and support RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60, with redundant power for high availability.

A hard drive is not included, so fit surveillance- or enterprise-grade drives sized to your channel count and retention.

There is no built-in PoE, so cameras connect over the network through external switches.

This is a specialist platform usually deployed and configured by a security integrator.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-IVSS7016-4M

Purpose-built AI server

A dedicated GPU and deep-learning engine handle large-scale face recognition, ANPR and metadata that a standard NVR cannot.

Massive channel capacity

Up to 256 channels at up to 24MP on one platform suit city, campus and large enterprise deployments.

Enterprise storage and uptime

Sixteen SATA/SAS bays with RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 and redundant power keep large archives resilient and the system available.

Centralised analytics

Runs AI by device and by camera together, so analytics scale across the whole system from one server.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

City and public-space surveillance

Centralises hundreds of cameras with face recognition, ANPR and metadata for large public or municipal deployments.

Campuses and large enterprises

Consolidates many buildings and zones onto one AI platform with resilient RAID storage and redundant power.

Transport and logistics hubs

Handles high channel counts and plate recognition across terminals, depots and access points.

Integrator-built systems

Suits security integrators designing large AI surveillance solutions that need centralised analytics and storage.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Plan as an integrator project

This is an enterprise platform usually scoped, deployed and configured by a security integrator, including network, switching and storage design.

02

Rack-mount with redundant power

Install the server in a data or comms rack, connect both power inputs for redundancy, and allow airflow for the GPU and drive array.

03

Build the network and PoE

With no built-in PoE, design the LAN and external PoE switches to power and carry up to 256 cameras across the site.

04

Fit drives and configure RAID and AI

Populate the 16 bays with surveillance/enterprise drives (not included), configure RAID, then set up face, ANPR, metadata and IVS analytics for the deployment.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-IVSS7016-4M

Q.01

What is an IVSS and how is it different from an NVR?

An IVSS (Intelligent Video Surveillance Server) is an all-in-one AI surveillance server. Besides the basic recording functions of an NVR, it adds a dedicated GPU and deep-learning algorithms purpose-built for large-scale analytics such as face recognition and metadata across many channels at once. A standard NVR records and runs limited AI; the IVSS is built from the ground up as an AI platform.
Q.02

How many cameras and what resolution does it support?

It supports up to 256 IP channels at resolutions up to 24MP, with 512 Mbps incoming and 384 Mbps recording bandwidth. That suits very large, multi-site enterprise deployments. The practical channel count depends on resolution and how much AI you run, so it is normally specified by an integrator for the site.
Q.03

Does it have built-in PoE for cameras?

No. With 256 channels, cameras connect over the network through external PoE switches and the wider LAN, not directly into the server. This is standard for a platform of this scale: you design the network and PoE switching to suit camera locations and power needs across the site.
Q.04

What AI can it perform?

It runs face detection and recognition against a database of up to 500,000 faces, ANPR with large plate databases, video metadata for people, motor and non-motor vehicles, and IVS such as tripwire, intrusion, crowd gathering and loitering. The GPU lets it analyse many channels in parallel, enabling multi-channel face recognition and metadata a standard recorder cannot match.
Q.05

Is a hard drive included and what storage does it take?

No drive is included. It has 16 SATA3.0 or SAS bays taking up to 16TB per drive and supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60. For 256 channels you fit a large array of surveillance- or enterprise-grade drives, using RAID to balance capacity against redundancy so recordings survive drive failures.
Q.06

Does it have redundant power?

Yes. The server includes redundant power for high availability, so a single power-supply fault does not stop recording or analytics. Combined with RAID storage, this suits mission-critical enterprise sites where continuous operation and footage integrity are essential.
Q.07

Can it work with third-party cameras?

Yes. It supports ONVIF (Profile S, T and G) and major third-party brands alongside Dahua. AI performance is strongest with compatible Dahua cameras that share metadata with the server, so large AI deployments are usually built around Dahua cameras while still recording third-party streams.
Q.08

Is this suitable for a home or small business?

No. The IVSS7016 is an enterprise AI platform for large organisations, city or campus surveillance and integrators, typically deployed and configured professionally. For a home or small business, a Dahua WizSense NVR with built-in PoE is the right choice; this server is designed for hundreds of channels and heavy AI workloads.
