§ 01Overview

What the NVR501-08B-P8-IQ is

The Uniview NVR501-08B-P8-IQ is the recorder for a system of eight cameras or fewer with one hard drive. The eight PoE ports supply up to 30W on a single port and 75W in total under IEEE 802.3at and 802.3af, so the cameras plug straight into the back of the recorder and power up without a separate switch, and the network side accepts 80Mbps of incoming video.

Recording and live viewing are two separate budgets. Recording resolution goes up to 16MP per camera in Ultra 265, H.265 or H.264. Live decoding, the work of drawing the pictures on the monitor, is rated at 2 x 16MP@30, 4 x 4K@30 or 8 x 4MP@30 with the smart functions off, and at 8 x 3MP@30 or 6 x 4MP@30 with them on. A live wall of eight 4K cameras is beyond the decoder, so check that line against the cameras planned.

On this model the analytics live on the recorder. Smart Intrusion Prevention runs on 4 channels and Ultra Motion Detection on 8, face detection runs on the NVR, and SmartSearch+ and AcuSearch let footage be searched by human body or motor vehicle instead of scrubbing through hours of video. The smart functions need a hard drive in Slot 1 with a normal status.

It has its limits. There are no alarm inputs or outputs and no RS485 port, a single drive bay, one 10M/100M network interface, and the 1U case is rated for -10 °C ~ 50 °C indoors at up to 90% humidity. Two-way audio is one channel through the RCA input and output on the recorder.

Remote viewing goes through the EZView app once EZCloud is switched on in the recorder menu, firmware can be updated by cloud, and ANR keeps recording reliable when the network between camera and recorder drops. The recorder comes with a 36 Months warranty in Australia and fits a rack with the RM-1U-260 kit.

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the NVR501-08B-P8-IQ

Q.01

Does the Uniview NVR501-08B-P8-IQ come with a hard drive?

No. The Uniview NVR501-08B-P8-IQ has one SATA interface for a surveillance-rated drive of up to 16TB, and a drive must be fitted and initialised from the menu before it records. Leave the storage setting on Overwrite rather than Full and Stop so recording continues when the drive fills.
Q.02

How many cameras can it run?

Eight. The recorder has 8 IP channels and 8 PoE ports, and the channel count cannot be expanded. Count the cameras planned for later before choosing it.
Q.03

How far can the cameras be from the recorder?

The PoE ports are standard Ethernet, so a single Cat5e or Cat6 run from the recorder to a camera should stay under 100 m. Each port is designed for one camera only; a switch must not be plugged into a PoE port.
Q.04

Do I need a separate PoE switch?

Not for eight cameras. The ports supply up to 30W on a single port and 75W in total under IEEE 802.3at and 802.3af; check each camera's PoE standard and power draw against those figures, because that is the first thing to confirm when a camera on a PoE port is not found.
Q.05

Will it take cameras from other brands?

Yes, cameras that conform to ONVIF Profile S, G or T, or through RTSP. Add them with ONVIF as the protocol, the camera's HTTP port and its login, on the same local network as the recorder; some brands keep a separate ONVIF user, and it is that user's details the recorder needs.
Q.06

What smart functions run on the recorder?

Smart Intrusion Prevention, Ultra Motion Detection and face detection all run on the recorder itself. Smart Intrusion Prevention works on 4 channels and Ultra Motion Detection on 8, face detection runs on the NVR, and recordings can be searched by human body or motor vehicle. The smart functions need a hard drive in Slot 1 with a normal status.
Q.07

Can I see the cameras on my phone?

Yes, through the EZView app. Turn EZCloud on under Menu, Network, Basic, EZCloud on the recorder, then scan the QR code on the EZCloud page in EZView under Devices, Add, Scan and allow a short time for the recorder to connect to the cloud.
Q.08

Does it have alarm inputs or two-way talk?

Alarm in, alarm out and RS485 are not available on this model. Two-way talk is one channel through the RCA audio input and output on the recorder, so a microphone and speaker sit at the recorder end.
Q.09

What is the warranty, and where should it live?

The recorder carries a 36 Months warranty in Australia. It is an indoor unit rated for -10 °C ~ 50 °C at up to 90% humidity, so a ventilated cupboard or comms cabinet suits it and a sealed roof-space box in summer does not.
