§ 01Overview

What the DS-96128NXI-S24R is

The Hikvision DS-96128NXI-S24R is a 128-channel 8K network video recorder with twenty-four drive bays and dual redundant power, made for the most demanding Australian sites such as airports, hospitals and smart-city roll-outs.

It runs AcuSense face recognition, perimeter protection and video structuralization on the recorder, manages up to 64 face libraries holding 300,000 images, and connects up to 128 cameras at resolutions up to 32MP.

Twenty-four SATA bays (up to 20TB each, 480TB total) run RAID 0/1/5/6/10 with N+M hot spare; bandwidth is 1280/1024 Mbps and steps down to 640/512 Mbps in RAID mode.

Four HDMI and two VGA outputs drive a control-room video wall, with 8K on HDMI 3.

Two redundant power supplies keep it running if one source fails.

It has no built-in PoE, so cameras run from separate switches, and it is supplied without hard drives.

§ 02Engineering

DS-96128NXI-S24R specifications

- 128 IP camera channels at up to 32MP, with 1280 Mbps incoming bandwidth (640 Mbps in RAID mode) for very large systems.

- On-NVR AcuSense analytics: face recognition across up to 64 libraries, perimeter protection and video structuralization.

- Twenty-four SATA bays accepting up to 20TB per drive (up to 480TB), with RAID 0/1/5/6/10 and N+M hot spare.

- Dual redundant power supplies keep recording continuous if one supply fails.

- Four HDMI and dual VGA outputs for a multi-screen control room, with 8K (7680 x 4320) on HDMI 3.

- Four 2.5GbE network ports; 3U chassis; supplied without hard drives and with no built-in PoE.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-96128NXI-S24R

Maximum local storage

Twenty-four bays of up to 20TB each give as much as 480TB on one recorder, so even a 128-camera site can hold months of footage under RAID.

Always-on power

Dual redundant power supplies mean a single supply or circuit fault will not stop recording, which matters on airports, hospitals and utilities.

Analytics on the recorder

AcuSense face recognition, perimeter protection and video structuralization run on the NVR, adding intelligence across a large, mixed camera fleet.

Honest bandwidth figures

Incoming bandwidth is 1280 Mbps, dropping to 640 Mbps in RAID mode, so you can size a 128-camera load without surprises.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Airports and transport

Continuous, redundant recording across terminals, aprons and platforms with watch-list face alerts.

Hospitals and healthcare

Protect entries, wards, car parks and pharmacies with high-uptime storage and rapid incident search.

Smart-city projects

Aggregate street, junction and public-space cameras with perimeter analytics and large face libraries.

Utilities and data centres

RAID plus dual power keep footage intact on power stations, substations and high-security facilities.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

In the box

DS-96128NXI-S24R recorder, power cables, mouse and rack-mount hardware. Hard drives are not included.

02

Storage and RAID

Fit up to twenty-four surveillance or enterprise drives (up to 20TB each), then configure RAID 0/1/5/6/10 or N+M hot spare. Plan camera bitrates around the RAID-mode bandwidth.

03

Redundant power

Connect both power supplies to separate circuits where possible, so the recorder stays up if one source is lost.

04

Powering cameras

No built-in PoE is provided; power cameras from separate switches and add them over the four 2.5GbE ports. Install in a 3U rack with strong airflow.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-96128NXI-S24R

Q.01

Does the DS-96128NXI-S24R include hard drives?

No. It ships with no drives. Populate up to twenty-four SATA bays with drives of up to 20TB each, for as much as 480TB.
Q.02

Does it have built-in PoE?

No. It is a back-end recorder, so cameras are powered from separate switches and added over the four 2.5GbE ports.
Q.03

How is it different from the S16R?

The S24R has 24 drive bays (versus 16) and dual redundant power supplies, for more storage and higher uptime.
Q.04

How many cameras does it support?

Up to 128 IP cameras at resolutions up to 32MP.
Q.05

What analytics run on the NVR?

On-NVR AcuSense provides face recognition, perimeter protection and video structuralization, with up to 64 face libraries and 300,000 images.
Q.06

Why list two bandwidth figures?

Incoming bandwidth is 1280 Mbps, dropping to 640 Mbps in RAID mode, so size your camera bitrates around the RAID figure when RAID is used.
Q.07

Which output gives 8K?

HDMI 3 outputs up to 8K, while the other HDMI and VGA outputs drive additional monitors.
Q.08

What happens if a power supply fails?

With dual redundant supplies, the recorder keeps running on the second supply, ideally fed from a separate circuit.

03

Fewer bays needed?

If 480TB is more than you need, the DS-96128NXI-S16R runs the same platform with 16 bays.

04

Cameras

Pair with Hikvision AcuSense, ANPR and people-counting cameras to drive the on-board analytics.
