§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use it

01

AcuSense AI Eliminates 90-95% of False Alarms

Deep learning technology distinguishes humans and vehicles from possums, kangaroos, birds and tree shadows for actionable security alerts only

02

Superior Night Vision Captures Colour to 0.003 Lux

Powered-by-DarkFighter technology with large 1/1.8" sensor delivers clear facial identification and registration plate details in near-darkness

03

Professional 4K Resolution Future-Proofs Your Investment

8MP sensor captures four times more detail than 1080p for facial recognition to 8.9 metres and vehicle plate reading across driveways

04

Built-In Audio Recording Without Subscription Fees

Integrated microphone captures crucial context alongside video whilst avoiding ongoing cloud storage costs that plague consumer camera brands

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

01

Front Driveway and Entry Monitoring

Wide 111° field of view covers entire driveway width whilst capturing clear faces at doorways and vehicle registration plates at typical distances

02

Side Pathway and Perimeter Security

Line-crossing detection creates virtual tripwires along vulnerable access corridors alerting only when humans breach defined boundaries at night

03

Small Business Retail and Transaction Areas

4K resolution with 120dB Wide Dynamic Range captures banknote handling and facial features clearly despite bright windows creating challenging backlight conditions

04

Warehouse Loading Docks and Commercial Perimeters

Vehicle classification distinguishes authorised delivery trucks from unauthorised access whilst 30-metre IR range covers entire loading bay areas effectively

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked

Q.01

Is this camera suitable for outdoor use in Australian weather conditions?

Yes. The DS-2CD2386G2-I(U) is IP67-rated, meaning it is fully dust-tight and can withstand rain and temporary water immersion. It also operates in temperatures from -30°C to 60°C, making it well-suited to all Australian climates including extreme summer heat.
Q.02

What is the difference between the DS-2CD2386G2-I and the DS-2CD2386G2-IU models?

The only difference is the built-in microphone. The -IU variant includes a built-in mic for real-time audio monitoring; the standard -I model does not. Neither model has a built-in speaker or strobe — if you want active deterrence (siren and strobe), you need the separate -ISU/SL variant.
Q.03

Which lens size should I choose — 2.8mm, 4mm, or 6mm?

The 2.8mm gives the widest view (111° horizontal) and suits driveways, entries, or rooms where you want broad coverage at close range. The 4mm is a solid all-rounder for front yards. The 6mm (51° horizontal) is best for longer, narrower scenes like laneways or carparks where you need to see further.
Q.04

Will this camera work with my existing older Hikvision NVR?

It depends on your NVR's firmware version. If your NVR is running older GUI3-era firmware, the camera will connect but AcuSense smart detection features must be configured directly through the camera's web browser interface — the NVR will treat it as a standard camera. Very old or OEM/rebadged NVRs may have compatibility issues; Hikvision recommends keeping NVR firmware up to date.
Q.05

Does this camera work without an NVR — can it record to a memory card?

Yes. The camera has a built-in micro SD/SDHC/SDXC slot supporting cards up to 512GB, so it can record locally without an NVR. However, for multi-camera setups with centralised playback and smart event search, pairing it with a compatible Hikvision NVR is strongly recommended.
Q.06

Does the AcuSense detection actually reduce false alarms from animals or trees moving?

Yes, this is one of its most practical benefits. The deep learning algorithm is specifically trained to classify humans and vehicles, filtering out movement from animals, swaying trees, and insects near the lens. Australian users in bushy or wildlife-prone areas particularly benefit from this — real-world testing shows up to 95% reduction in irrelevant motion alerts.
Q.07

Does this camera support PoE, and what switch or injector do I need?

Yes, it supports IEEE 802.3af PoE (Class 3), drawing a maximum of 6.8W. Any standard 802.3af-compliant PoE switch or injector will power it. No separate power supply is needed if you're using PoE, which simplifies installation significantly.
Q.08

Is this a genuine Australian-warranted product and what is the warranty?

When purchased through an authorised Australian distributor or reseller, the DS-2CD2386G2-I(U) is covered by a 3-year back-to-base manufacturer warranty. Be cautious of grey market imports sold cheaply online — these do not carry Australian warranty or local support and may have region-locked firmware.
