§ 01Overview

What the QNV-8020R is

The Hanwha QNV-8020R is a 5MP H.265 outdoor vandal dome camera in the Wisenet NEW-Q Series, built for exterior ceilings, soffits, and wall brackets across retail, banking, and commercial buildings.

A fixed 4mm lens frames entry points, corridors, car park overhangs, and building perimeters at 2592x1944 resolution up to 30fps, with 120dB Wide Dynamic Range keeping detail readable against strong backlight — glass facades, sunlit overhangs, and mixed-light thresholds.

WiseStream II smart compression combined with H.265, H.264, and MJPEG codecs reduces bandwidth and NVR storage load on shared multi-camera runs.

Built-in 20m IR illumination extends usable coverage after site lighting shuts down.

The IP66-sealed and IK10 impact-rated aluminium vandal dome suits publicly accessible outdoor mounts where tampering or harsh weather are genuine risks, with a microSD/SDHC/SDXC slot supporting cards up to 128GB for edge recording as an NVR failover buffer.

On-camera analytics cover motion detection, tampering, and defocus detection.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the QNV-8020R

Set-and-Forget Framing

The 4mm fixed lens delivers wide continuous coverage without needing to tune focus remotely — suited to retail floors, parking overhangs, and corridors where the field of view stays consistent long-term.

Handles Backlit Retail Scenes

120dB WDR preserves detail against strong backlight from shopfront windows, glazed banking counters, and sunlit overhangs — the everyday failure mode where cheaper 5MP domes lose face or plate detail at busy entrances.

Predictable NVR Storage Load

WiseStream II compression combined with H.265 cuts bitrate on quiet scenes without dropping quality on active ones, protecting shared NVR storage on multi-camera retail and commercial deployments.

Built for Publicly Accessible Mounts

IP66-sealed aluminium plus IK10 impact rating handle retail entries, banking foyers, and school corridors where lower-rated domes crack or fail from deliberate interference.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Retail Store Entry and POS Areas

Ceiling or soffit mount frames wide doorways and counter zones from one unit, with 120dB WDR keeping detail readable against Australian sunlit shopfronts even during peak trading hours.

Banking Branches and Office Foyers

IK10 impact resistance handles publicly accessible mounts around teller counters and lift lobbies where tampering is a considered risk; the compact dome sits flush without announcing the camera position.

Car Park Overhangs and Covered Walkways

20m IR sustains scene coverage across parking bays and covered walkway lengths overnight, while the IP66 housing handles Australian exterior weather from wind-driven rain to summer heat.

Multi-Camera Commercial NVR Sites

WiseStream II and H.265 keep bandwidth and storage demands predictable across multi-channel NVR setups, making the QNV-8020R practical for larger sites recording many cameras to a shared recorder.

Installation & setup

01

What is in the Box

1. Hanwha QNV-8020R Camera x 1 2. Mounting Screws & Anchors x 1 set 3. Quick Start Guide x 1

02

Installation Requirements

1. Power: PoE (IEEE 802.3af) — verify PoE switch/injector budget when adding multiple cameras to a shared switch. 2. Storage: microSD / SDHC / SDXC card, max 128GB, 1 slot, for edge recording failover. 3. Mounting: ceiling, soffit, or wall — aluminium vandal dome housing. 4. Sealing: preserve the IP66 rating by sealing all conduit and cable entries.

03

App/Software Setup

1. Access via web viewer, or add to Hanwha Wisenet WAVE or SSM software. 2. Power the camera via PoE and allow it to initialise on the network. 3. Discover via ONVIF; configure motion zones, hallway view, and edge-recording as required. 4. Enable defocus and tampering detection alerts as part of commissioning.

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the QNV-8020R

Q.01

Q: What field of view does the QNV-8020R cover?

A: The fixed 4mm lens frames retail entries, corridors, and covered outdoor areas from a single ceiling or soffit mount. For scenes needing remote framing adjustment after installation, the motorised varifocal QNV-8080R in the same NEW-Q 5MP dome family is the alternative.
Q.02

Q: How far does the night vision reach?

A: Built-in IR LEDs sustain coverage to 20m — enough for the typical retail entry, corridor, or parking overhang. Beyond that distance image detail drops off; plan supplementary lighting for longer perimeter runs.
Q.03

Q: How much microSD storage is supported?

A: A single microSD / SDHC / SDXC slot supports cards up to 128GB. Edge recording is intended as a failover buffer when the primary NVR or network link is temporarily unavailable, not a primary long-term archive.
Q.04

Q: Is the housing rated for direct outdoor exposure?

A: Yes — IEC 60529 IP66 (dust-tight, protected against water jets) and IEC 62262 IK10 (impact resistance). Seal all cable and conduit entries to preserve the IP66 rating.
Q.05

Q: How does WiseStream II help with storage on a multi-camera site?

A: WiseStream II dynamically adjusts encoding complexity to scene motion; combined with H.265 it cuts bandwidth demand on quiet scenes without dropping quality on active ones. On a multi-channel NVR shared across many cameras, this keeps storage load predictable.
Q.06

Q: Can this camera integrate with third-party NVR / VMS platforms?

A: The QNV-8020R supports ONVIF for standard third-party integration — the technical basis for Blue Iris, Home Assistant ONVIF, and generic NVR / VMS compatibility. For full feature access including WiseStream tuning, pair with Hanwha Wisenet WAVE or SSM. Test ONVIF compatibility with your specific recorder before a large rollout.
Q.07

Q: I want to open several streams from this camera at once — is there a limit?

A: Per the Q-series troubleshooting documentation, the camera supports a maximum of 3 simultaneous streaming profiles. Opening a 4th when three are already active drops one of the existing connections. Plan NVR/VMS channel assignments around that limit.
Q.08

Q: Should I patch the firmware before deployment?

A: Yes. Hanwha disclosed CVE-2023-5037 (authenticated command injection) and CVE-2023-5038 (unauthenticated DoS) affecting Q-series firmware in November 2023; both are resolved in firmware 1.41.16 and later. Confirm patched firmware as part of commissioning.
