What the DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU is

This Hikvision 6 MP 8-channel kit is a complete six-camera dome system for a larger home or business, supplied ready to record.

It pairs six DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU AcuSense dome cameras with an eight-channel DS-7608NI-M2/8P PoE NVR and a 4 TB surveillance hard drive already fitted, so each camera connects on a single network cable and the recorder captures all six channels from the start.

Because the recorder has eight channels and the kit uses six, there are two spare channels for adding cameras later.

The cameras are the strength of this kit.

Each is a 6 MP dome with DarkFighter low-light imaging for clean detail in dim scenes, AcuSense deep learning that classifies human and vehicle targets so alerts and searches ignore rain, shadows and animals, and a 120 dB wide dynamic range that holds detail against bright backlight.

The metal housing is IP67 weatherproof and IK10 vandal-resistant, so these domes suit accessible and public-facing positions such as entrances, shopfronts and car parks where a camera could be knocked or tampered with.

Each camera also has a built-in microphone for audio recording.

The DS-7608NI-M2/8P recorder has dual hard-drive bays, so storage can grow with the system.

A couple of honest notes so it is set up correctly.

At night these are infrared cameras with a 30 metre range, so the picture is black and white, not full colour; DarkFighter improves low-light quality but this is not a white-light ColorVu kit.

The cameras have a built-in microphone for audio recording but no built-in speaker, so they are not a two-way intercom on their own.

The 4 TB drive is included as standard, H.265+ compression keeps storage efficient, and a second or larger drive can be fitted for longer retention.

Installation & setup

Six DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU dome cameras, the DS-7608NI-M2/8P NVR with a 4 TB drive fitted, power supply and mounting accessories. Connect a monitor for local viewing.

Cabling

Run one network cable from each camera to a PoE port on the NVR. Standard Ethernet runs apply, and a PoE switch can extend reach or add ports for the spare channels.

Mounting

Fix each dome to a ceiling, wall or eave covering the area you want watched, within the 30 metre infrared range, and adjust the lens angle inside the housing.

Setup

Connect the NVR to a screen and the network, add the cameras on the plug-and-play PoE ports, set the AcuSense human and vehicle rules and recording schedule, and set up remote viewing in the Hik-Connect app.

Yes. Yes. The recorder is an eight-channel NVR and the kit uses six channels, so there are two spare PoE ports and channels for more cameras. Beyond eight cameras you would step up to a larger recorder, such as a sixteen-channel NVR, and add a PoE switch for the extra ports.

Do the cameras record sound or allow two-way talk?
Each DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU has a built-in microphone, so the kit can record audio alongside the video. They have a microphone only and no built-in speaker, so they are not a two-way intercom on their own. Confirm that recording audio is permitted for your site before enabling it.

Do the cameras film in colour at night?
Not in the dark. They use DarkFighter low-light imaging for clean detail in dim conditions, but at night they switch to 30 metre infrared, so the image is black and white. For full-colour footage all night you would choose a ColorVu kit with white-light cameras.

What does the IK10 rating add over a normal camera?
IK10 is the highest common impact rating, so the dome housing is built to take knocks, kicks and tampering. Combined with IP67 weather sealing, it makes these cameras a strong fit for accessible and public spots such as entrances, shopfronts, stairwells and car parks where a camera might be hit.

What does AcuSense do for me?
AcuSense uses on-camera deep learning to classify human and vehicle targets and ignore other movement such as rain, leaves or animals. The system alerts you to what matters, cuts false alarms, and lets you search recordings by human or vehicle events instead of scrubbing through hours of footage.

How much will the 4 TB drive store?
The included 4 TB surveillance drive gives generous everyday retention for six 6 MP cameras, helped by H.265+ compression, which roughly halves storage compared with older H.264. Exact days depend on motion, frame rate and quality, and a second or larger drive can be fitted for longer retention.
