Installation & setup

Choose a power source

Run PoE (802.3af) over a single cable, use ePoE for longer runs, or provide a 12V DC supply where PoE is unavailable.

Mount on wall, ceiling or eave

The eyeball housing adjusts at the mount, suiting walls, soffits and covered entries. Use a Dahua junction box where surface cabling or clearance is needed.

Position the warm LEDs sensibly

The LEDs emit visible light, so aim them where a night-time glow is acceptable or useful as deterrence, and avoid pointing them at reflective surfaces close to the lens.

Plan for lead time

As a special-order item with a 7 to 11 week lead time, order early and confirm stock before scheduling the install.

Does the IPC-HDW5849H-ASE-LED-S2 record in colour at night?
Yes. Warm-light LEDs illuminate the scene up to 50m so the camera records continuous full colour in total darkness, capturing clothing, vehicle and skin tones that infrared cameras would show only in black and white.
Q.02

How is this different from an infrared camera?
Infrared light is invisible and produces black-and-white night footage. This camera uses warm white LEDs that emit visible light, so footage stays in full colour. The trade-off is a visible glow at night, which doubles as a deterrent but is not covert.
Q.03

Does it have two-way audio?
No. The datasheet lists a built-in microphone with audio in and out over RCA for external devices, but no built-in speaker, so it does not provide self-contained two-way talk. Use a camera with a built-in speaker if you need on-camera voice.

Is it rated against impact?
The Dahua datasheet rates this model IP67 for dust and water. It does not list an IK impact rating, so we do not claim vandal resistance. For an impact-rated full-colour camera, ask us about an IK10 alternative.
