§ 01Overview

What the IPC-HDW5442EMP-ASE-S3 is

The Dahua IPC-HDW5442EMP-ASE-S3 is a 4MP WizMind eyeball camera that pairs a large 1/1.8" Starlight+ sensor with 140 dB wide dynamic range, so it holds colour and detail in near-darkness and avoids silhouettes at backlit entries.

The bigger sensor gathers more light than the 1/2.7" and 1/3" sensors common in this class, which shows in low-light image quality.

As a WizMind 5 Series camera it runs a full deep-learning suite: human and vehicle perimeter protection, face detection with attribute capture, video metadata, people counting with reports, smart sound detection and SMD 3.0.

These analytics are generated on the camera but are received and stored by a compatible Dahua WizMind NVR or VMS.

The lens is fixed at 2.8mm for a wide 112-degree view, a built-in microphone records one audio channel, and the metal IP67 housing suits outdoor positions.

It powers from PoE, ePoE or 12 VDC and stores to microSD up to 512 GB.

Note: the supplied datasheet specifies infrared to 30 m; some listings quote 50 m, so this copy follows the datasheet figure.

What the IPC-HDW5442EMP-ASE-S3 features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

4MP Ultra HD

4MP captures roughly twice the detail of standard 1080p.

30m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared lets the camera see in complete darkness up to around 30m — enough for a typical driveway, front yard or entrance. People and vehicles stay clear in black-and-white, brighter the closer they are.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

§ 02Engineering

IPC-HDW5442EMP-ASE-S3 specifications

- Large sensor: A 1/1.8" Starlight+ CMOS sensor gathers more light than smaller sensors for stronger low-light performance.

- Resolution: Records 4MP at 2688 x 1520 through a fixed 2.8mm wide lens with a 112-degree field of view.

- 140 dB WDR: Wide dynamic range balances bright backlit entries against shaded interiors in a single frame.

- WizMind analytics: Human and vehicle detection, face attributes, video metadata, people counting and smart sound detection run on the camera.

- Night vision: Built-in IR provides black-and-white coverage in full darkness; the datasheet specifies a 30 m range.

- Built-in microphone: Records one audio channel, with an RCA in and out for an external microphone or speaker.

- Durable and flexible: IP67 metal housing, PoE, ePoE or 12 VDC power, and microSD up to 512 GB.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the IPC-HDW5442EMP-ASE-S3

Bigger sensor, better low light

The 1/1.8" Starlight+ sensor captures more light than the smaller sensors in most 4MP cameras, for cleaner images after dark.

Detail in hard light

140 dB WDR keeps faces and plates readable at backlit doorways and bright entries that defeat lower-spec cameras.

Analytics built in

Face attributes, people counting and human and vehicle detection turn footage into searchable, structured data on a WizMind NVR.

Solid metal build

A full-metal IP67 housing stands up to weather and everyday knocks in outdoor Australian conditions.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Backlit entrances

The large sensor and 140 dB WDR handle a glass entry with bright daylight behind visitors, where silhouettes are a common problem.

Retail and queue analytics

People counting with reports tracks foot traffic and queue depth, with heat maps showing high-dwell areas.

Building lobbies

Face attribute capture supports visitor records at reception points, with a wide 112-degree view from one position.

Outdoor perimeters

IP67 and the metal body suit eaves and walls, with human and vehicle classification reducing nuisance alerts.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Recorder and analytics

Records to a Dahua WizMind NVR or onboard microSD up to 512 GB and works with the Dahua DMSS app. People counting and face reports need a compatible WizMind recorder or VMS.

02

Power and cabling

Use PoE or ePoE for a single-cable run, or 12 VDC. ePoE allows longer runs than standard PoE; run quality Cat6 to the switch or recorder.

03

Night vision

The supplied datasheet specifies 30 m infrared. If your scene needs longer night reach, confirm the IR range for your unit or choose a longer-range model.

04

Mounting

Fix the eyeball base to a wall or ceiling and use the pan, tilt and rotation adjustment to refine the frame without moving the bracket.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the IPC-HDW5442EMP-ASE-S3

Q.01

What makes the larger sensor on this camera worthwhile?

The 1/1.8 inch Starlight+ sensor gathers more light than the 1/2.7 inch and 1/3 inch sensors in most 4MP cameras, which gives cleaner, more usable images in low light and at night.
Q.02

How far does the night vision reach?

The supplied datasheet specifies infrared to 30 m for black-and-white coverage in darkness. Some listings quote 50 m, so confirm the figure for your unit if long night reach is critical.
Q.03

Does it handle strong backlight?

Yes. 140 dB wide dynamic range balances a bright backlit entry against shaded interiors, which helps avoid silhouettes at glass doorways and entrances.
Q.04

What analytics does it run?

It runs WizMind deep-learning analytics including human and vehicle detection, face attributes, video metadata, people counting with reports, smart sound detection and SMD 3.0.
Q.05

Does it have two-way audio?

It has a built-in microphone for one audio channel, plus RCA audio in and out for an external microphone or speaker. It does not have a built-in speaker for self-contained two-way talk.
Q.06

Do I need a particular recorder for the analytics?

The analytics run on the camera, but a compatible Dahua WizMind NVR or VMS is needed to display people counting and face reports fully. Confirm your recorder supports them.
Q.07

How is it powered and is it weatherproof?

It runs on PoE, ePoE or 12 VDC and carries an IP67 metal housing, so it suits outdoor positions across Australian conditions.
Q.08

What lens does it have and can it zoom?

It has a fixed 2.8mm wide lens with a 112-degree view and does not zoom. For a tighter view at distance, a motorised varifocal model frames better.
