The Hikvision DS-2CE78H8T-IT3F is a 5 MP Turbo HD outdoor turret camera that upgrades an analogue CCTV system to high definition over existing coax, with no network cabling required.

It records 2560 x 1944 video and switches between four signal types (TVI/AHD/CVI/CVBS), so it drops onto almost any HD or legacy analogue recorder.

Lens: fixed 2.8 mm (approx.

98 degrees wide view).

Night vision: EXIR 2.0 infrared to 60 m (black and white at night).

Built for Australian outdoor use with an IP67 metal housing rated -40C to 60C, 130 dB true WDR for harsh backlight, and a 0.003 lux ultra-low-light sensor.

Powered by 12 V DC (no Power-over-Coax).

Installation Requirements

1. Power: a 12 V DC supply (max 5.8 W) — a local plug-pack or a central CCTV power box. This model is not powered over coax. 2. Cabling: one coax run (BNC) back to your DVR; you can reuse existing RG59 from older analogue cameras. 3. Recorder: an HD-TVI / AHD / CVI DVR, or set the camera to CVBS for a legacy analogue recorder. 4. Mounting: solid wall or eave; the turret tilts on its base to aim. No IK vandal rating, so mount it out of easy reach in exposed spots.

Will this camera work with my existing analogue DVR?
It outputs a switchable 4-in-1 signal (HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI or CVBS), so it connects to almost any HD analogue or older CVBS recorder over your current coax. Set its output to the signal type your recorder uses.

Does it need a separate power supply, or can it run over the coax?
This model is 12 V DC only (max 5.8 W) and does not support Power-over-Coax. Run a separate 12 V DC supply to the camera, either a local plug-pack or a central CCTV power box.

Can it see in full colour at night?
No. Night vision is infrared EXIR 2.0 reaching up to 60 m, so footage after dark is black and white. For 24/7 colour you would need a ColorVu (-L) model with white-light LEDs instead.

Is it OK to mount outside, under an eave or on an exposed wall?
It carries an IP67 rating against dust and rain and an operating range of -40C to 60C, so it suits Aussie eaves, carports and exposed walls. It has no IK vandal rating, so mount it out of easy reach in higher-risk spots.

Does it record sound?
No. There is no built-in microphone or audio input on this model, so it captures video only. Choose a model with audio-over-coax if you need sound recorded down the cable.

What does the 2.8 mm lens actually cover?
The fixed 2.8 mm lens gives a wide field of view around 98 degrees horizontally, which suits driveways, front gates, patios and shopfronts where one camera should cover a broad area rather than zoom in on distance.

Will I get a clear image against a bright sky or a backlit doorway?
Its 130 dB true WDR balances bright and dark areas in the same frame, and the ultra-low-light sensor works down to 0.003 lux, so backlit entrances and west-facing walls stay usable through the day.

Can I reuse the cabling from an old analogue camera?
Yes for the video. It runs over standard coax with a BNC connector, so you can reuse existing RG59 runs when upgrading from older CVBS cameras. You will still need to provide 12 V DC power, as this model is not powered over the coax.

Should I get this 5 MP camera or the 8 MP DS-2CE78U7T-IT3F?
Pick this 5 MP version for a lower cost, smoother full-resolution video (5 MP at 20 fps) and lighter storage. Step up to the 8 MP DS-2CE78U7T-IT3F if you need maximum 4K detail for plates and faces and can accept 12.5-15 fps at full resolution and an 8 MP-capable DVR. The two are otherwise the same turret with 60 m EXIR, 130 dB WDR and IP67.
