§ 01Overview

What the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW-E is

The Hikvision DS-2CV2041G2-IDW is a 4MP outdoor Wi-Fi bullet camera for situations where running a full network cable is awkward but a power point is nearby.

It joins a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for data while drawing power from the supplied 12V DC plugpack, so you avoid a long Ethernet run to the recorder.

There is an important limitation to understand before you buy: on these "-IDW" Wi-Fi models, Hikvision's Hik-Connect remote app and P2P do not work over the Wi-Fi link.

Wi-Fi works with iVMS-4200 and local viewing; for Hik-Connect remote access the camera needs to be connected by wired Ethernet.

Many installers set it up wired first with the SADP tool, then move it to Wi-Fi for local NVR recording.

The camera has a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, a 1/3" sensor with 120dB WDR for mixed lighting, and EXIR 2.0 infrared reaching about 30 metres at night (black and white).

The IP66 housing handles rain and dust, and a microSD card up to 512GB allows on-board recording.

It comes in 2.8mm or 4mm fixed-lens options, so note your choice in the order comment.

What the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW-E features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

4MP Ultra HD

4MP captures roughly twice the detail of standard 1080p.

30m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared lets the camera see in complete darkness up to around 30m — enough for a typical driveway, front yard or entrance. People and vehicles stay clear in black-and-white, brighter the closer they are.

Two-Way Audio

Talk and listen in real time through the app — tell a courier where to leave a parcel, or speak to someone at the gate, whether you're home or away.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW-E

Less cabling

Wi-Fi carries the video over your 2.4GHz network, so you only need a nearby power point instead of a long Ethernet run to the recorder.

Talk back

A built-in microphone and speaker let you hear and speak to whoever is at the door or driveway through the app or NVR.

On-board recording

A microSD card up to 512GB stores footage in the camera, useful as a standalone setup or as backup if the network drops.

Backed locally

Supplied by an authorised dealer with a 3-year Australian warranty and support.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Sheds and outbuildings

Where a cable run back to the house is hard, Wi-Fi plus a local power point gets a camera up quickly.

Front entries and porches

Two-way audio lets you answer the door or speak to a delivery driver from your phone over the wired connection.

Rental and temporary sites

microSD recording and Wi-Fi make it easy to set up and move without re-cabling.

Filling a gap in an existing system

Add coverage to a spot the wired cameras miss, recording locally or to an NVR over Wi-Fi.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Understand the Wi-Fi limit

Hik-Connect remote viewing needs a wired connection; Wi-Fi works for iVMS-4200 and local/NVR use. Plan the cabling accordingly.

02

Power

It is 12V DC only (no PoE). Mount it within reach of a power point and use the supplied plugpack.

03

Wired first, then Wi-Fi

Connect by Ethernet, activate with the SADP tool, set the Wi-Fi SSID and password, then move to wireless if you do not need Hik-Connect.

04

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the unit and adds it to the NVR or app. Add it in iVMS-4200 or your NVR and set motion zones and two-way audio.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW-E

Q.01

Can I use Hik-Connect over Wi-Fi with this camera?

No. On the -IDW Wi-Fi models, Hik-Connect and P2P only work over a wired Ethernet connection. Wi-Fi works with iVMS-4200 and local or NVR viewing. Connect it by cable if you need remote app access.
Q.02

Does it need a network cable at all?

You need Ethernet for the initial setup and activation, and for Hik-Connect remote viewing. For local recording to an NVR you can then run it over Wi-Fi.
Q.03

Can I power it over PoE?

No. This model is 12V DC only and ships with a plugpack, so mount it within reach of a power point.
Q.04

Does it have audio?

Yes. It has a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, so you can listen and speak through the app or NVR.
Q.05

Which lens should I choose?

The 2.8mm gives a wider 95-degree view for entrances and open areas; the 4mm gives a narrower 79-degree view with a little more reach. Note your choice in the order comment.
Q.06

Can it record on its own?

Yes. It has a microSD slot supporting a card up to 512GB, so it can record locally without an NVR, or use the card as backup if the network drops.
Q.07

How far does the night vision reach?

EXIR 2.0 infrared covers about 30 metres in darkness, producing black-and-white footage at night via the IR cut filter.
Q.08

Is it weatherproof for outdoor use?

Yes. It is IP66-rated against rain and dust and runs from -30 to 60 degrees Celsius, suiting most Australian outdoor positions.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

02

Add storage

Fit a surveillance drive such as the 2TB in the NVR, or use a microSD card up to 512GB in the camera.

03

Tidy the cabling

Add the DS-1280ZJ-XS junction box for a neat, weather-protected power and cable entry.

04

Prefer a wired camera

If you can run a cable, a PoE model such as the DS-2CD2T66G2-4I avoids the Wi-Fi Hik-Connect limit.
