§ 01Overview
What the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW-E is
The Hikvision DS-2CV2041G2-IDW is a 4MP outdoor Wi-Fi bullet camera for situations where running a full network cable is awkward but a power point is nearby.
It joins a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for data while drawing power from the supplied 12V DC plugpack, so you avoid a long Ethernet run to the recorder.
There is an important limitation to understand before you buy: on these "-IDW" Wi-Fi models, Hikvision's Hik-Connect remote app and P2P do not work over the Wi-Fi link.
Wi-Fi works with iVMS-4200 and local viewing; for Hik-Connect remote access the camera needs to be connected by wired Ethernet.
Many installers set it up wired first with the SADP tool, then move it to Wi-Fi for local NVR recording.
The camera has a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, a 1/3" sensor with 120dB WDR for mixed lighting, and EXIR 2.0 infrared reaching about 30 metres at night (black and white).
The IP66 housing handles rain and dust, and a microSD card up to 512GB allows on-board recording.
It comes in 2.8mm or 4mm fixed-lens options, so note your choice in the order comment.

§ 04Why choose this
Built for the way you actually use the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW-E
Talk back
A built-in microphone and speaker let you hear and speak to whoever is at the door or driveway through the app or NVR.
On-board recording
A microSD card up to 512GB stores footage in the camera, useful as a standalone setup or as backup if the network drops.
Backed locally
Supplied by an authorised dealer with a 3-year Australian warranty and support.
§ 05Where it fits
Right at home in these scenarios
Sheds and outbuildings
Where a cable run back to the house is hard, Wi-Fi plus a local power point gets a camera up quickly.
Front entries and porches
Two-way audio lets you answer the door or speak to a delivery driver from your phone over the wired connection.
Rental and temporary sites
microSD recording and Wi-Fi make it easy to set up and move without re-cabling.
Filling a gap in an existing system
Add coverage to a spot the wired cameras miss, recording locally or to an NVR over Wi-Fi.
§ 06Setup
Installation & setup
Understand the Wi-Fi limit
Hik-Connect remote viewing needs a wired connection; Wi-Fi works for iVMS-4200 and local/NVR use. Plan the cabling accordingly.
Power
It is 12V DC only (no PoE). Mount it within reach of a power point and use the supplied plugpack.
Wired first, then Wi-Fi
Connect by Ethernet, activate with the SADP tool, set the Wi-Fi SSID and password, then move to wireless if you do not need Hik-Connect.
Setup
In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the unit and adds it to the NVR or app. Add it in iVMS-4200 or your NVR and set motion zones and two-way audio.

§ 09Bundles
Recommended packages
Record it on an NVR
Pair it with a Hikvision PoE NVR such as the DS-7604NI-M1/4P or DS-7608NI-M2/8P 4TB; the camera joins over Wi-Fi for recording.
Add storage
Fit a surveillance drive such as the 2TB in the NVR, or use a microSD card up to 512GB in the camera.
Tidy the cabling
Add the DS-1280ZJ-XS junction box for a neat, weather-protected power and cable entry.
Prefer a wired camera
If you can run a cable, a PoE model such as the DS-2CD2T66G2-4I avoids the Wi-Fi Hik-Connect limit.
