§ 01Overview

What the DH-IPC-HDW2531EMP-AS-0280B-S2-AUS is

The Dahua DH-IPC-HDW2531EMP-AS-0280B-S2-AUS is a 5MP Starlight IP turret from the Lite range, a dependable, cost-effective camera for everyday residential and small-business positions.

A 1/2.7-inch 5MP sensor captures 2592 x 1944 detail, around 25 percent more than a 4MP camera, and Starlight low-light imaging keeps the picture in colour in dim conditions where basic cameras drop to monochrome, with 120dB WDR for backlit entries.

A fixed 2.8mm lens gives a wide view for driveways and entries, Smart IR reaches up to 30m for night coverage, and a built-in microphone records on-site audio.

IVS analytics support tripwire and intrusion detection for rule-based alerting on defined zones.

As a Lite-series camera it does not include the SMD human and vehicle classification of the WizSense range, so its smart alerts are rule-based rather than target-classified.

Smart H.265+ keeps storage and bandwidth down, the IP67 metal housing suits outdoor mounting, and it powers from 12V DC or PoE (802.3af).

What the DH-IPC-HDW2531EMP-AS-0280B-S2-AUS features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

30m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared lets the camera see in complete darkness up to around 30m — enough for a typical driveway, front yard or entrance. People and vehicles stay clear in black-and-white, brighter the closer they are.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HDW2531EMP-AS-0280B-S2-AUS

More detail than 4MP

A 5MP sensor captures around 25 percent more detail than a 4MP camera, helping identification at entries and driveways.

Colour for longer at dusk

Starlight low-light imaging holds colour in dim conditions before switching to 30m infrared, keeping twilight scenes usable.

Audio included

A built-in microphone records on-site sound alongside the video, adding context to events without extra hardware.

Cost-effective and weatherproof

An IP67 metal turret with Smart H.265+ and PoE delivers reliable everyday coverage at an accessible price.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Home driveways and entries

A wide 2.8mm view and 30m IR cover the front of a property, with IVS alerts on movement across a defined line or zone.

Small business frontages

Records entries, counters and service points with audio and 5MP detail for everyday retail and office security.

Side and rear yards

Weatherproof coverage of gates, paths and small yards where a wide fixed view suits the space.

Standalone or NVR positions

microSD support allows a standalone camera, or pair it with a Dahua PoE NVR for full multi-camera recording.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Plan the fixed-lens position

This is the fixed 2.8mm version, so choose the mounting position and height to match the area before mounting, as the lens cannot be zoomed later.

02

Power over PoE or 12V DC

Run a single PoE (802.3af) cable from a switch or NVR, or provide a 12V DC supply. Power draw is under 7.2W.

03

Mount on wall, eave or ceiling

Fix the turret to a wall, eave or ceiling, using a Dahua junction box such as the PFA137 where surface cabling or extra clearance is needed.

04

Set IVS rules

Configure tripwire and intrusion zones so the camera raises alerts on movement across defined boundaries, and set the microphone and storage to suit the site.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-IPC-HDW2531EMP-AS-0280B-S2-AUS

Q.01

How far does the night vision reach?

Smart IR reaches up to 30m, suiting driveways, entries and small yards. Starlight low-light imaging keeps the picture in colour for longer in dim conditions before the camera switches to monochrome infrared, so it stays usable in twilight and partial lighting.
Q.02

Does it detect people and vehicles specifically?

It has IVS tripwire and intrusion detection that alert when movement crosses a defined line or enters a zone. As a Lite-series camera it does not include the SMD human and vehicle classification found on Dahua WizSense models, so alerts are rule-based rather than filtered by target type. For human and vehicle filtering, choose a WizSense camera such as the HDW3641 series.
Q.03

Does it record audio?

Yes. It has a built-in microphone that records on-site audio alongside the video. There is no built-in speaker, so it captures sound one way and does not provide two-way talk.
Q.04

What lens does it have and what does it cover?

This is the fixed 2.8mm version, giving a wide view suited to driveways, entries and small yards. The focal length is fixed and cannot be zoomed after install, so plan the mounting position for the area you want to cover.
Q.05

How is it powered?

It runs on PoE (802.3af) over a single cable from a switch or NVR, or on 12V DC where PoE is not available. Power draw is under 7.2W, well within a standard PoE budget, which keeps cabling simple.
Q.06

Does it save on storage?

Yes. Smart H.265+ compression reduces bandwidth and storage compared with H.264, so you keep more recording history on the same drive or card. It supports a microSD card for edge recording as a backup or for a standalone position.
Q.07

Is it suitable for outdoor use in Australia?

Yes. The metal housing is IP67-rated against dust and water across a -40C to +60C range, suiting exposed walls and eaves in heat, rain and humidity. Mount under an eave where practical to reduce direct weather on the lens.
Q.08

What recorder works with it?

It works with any Dahua NVR and with third-party ONVIF recorders. For the easiest setup, pair it with a Dahua PoE NVR so power, recording and configuration are handled over a single cable per camera.
