§ 01Overview

What the DH-SD42212T-HN-S2 is

The Dahua DH-SD42212T-HN-S2 is a compact 2MP PTZ camera that pairs a 12x optical zoom (5.3-64mm) with a 1/2.8-inch Sony STARVIS sensor for detailed 1080p coverage of car parks, yards and large commercial sites.

Full pan, tilt and zoom lets one camera shift from a wide overview to a close-up, and IVS tripwire and intrusion rules flag defined zone breaches.

Importantly, this model has no built-in infrared illumination and relies on available ambient light at night, so it suits lit sites such as car parks and externally lit entries rather than completely dark positions.

It carries an IP66 and IK10 housing, runs on PoE+ or 24V DC, and has an 8-week lead time from Dahua.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-SD42212T-HN-S2

Zoom on demand from one camera

A 12x optical zoom and full PTZ let one compact unit sweep a car park or yard and zoom into a vehicle or person, reducing the number of fixed cameras needed.

Honest about night vision

With no built-in IR, this camera is matched to lit sites where the Starlight sensor performs, rather than over-promising coverage in total darkness.

Compact and discreet

A smaller PTZ housing suits tighter brackets and less obtrusive positions than larger speed domes, while keeping genuine 12x optical zoom.

Active zone alerts

IVS tripwire and intrusion rules flag defined breaches automatically, so it is more than a remote-view tool.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Lit car parks and forecourts

The 12x zoom and pan/tilt cover entry lanes and bays, with the STARVIS sensor performing under existing overhead lighting.

Externally lit building entries

Suits forecourts, loading docks and lit entrances where ambient light is present but a wide fixed camera lacks reach.

Perimeter and gate monitoring

IVS tripwire and intrusion rules suit gates, access roads and fence lines where defined zone alerts are needed.

Space-constrained mounts

The compact housing fits tighter brackets and discreet positions where a large PTZ would be too obtrusive.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Confirm site lighting first

Because there is no built-in IR, deploy this camera where ambient lighting exists at night. For darker positions, plan external lighting or choose an IR model.

02

Use a PoE+ or 24V DC source

Power from an 802.3at PoE+ switch or injector, or a 24V DC supply. A 15.4W 802.3af port may not reliably run the PTZ motor.

03

Mount on ceiling, wall or pendant

It suits ceiling, wall or pendant positions with a Dahua-compatible PTZ bracket rated for the weight; confirm fit before installing.

04

Set zoom and IVS rules

Set the zoom for the scene and configure IVS tripwire and intrusion zones to match the site layout during commissioning.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-SD42212T-HN-S2

Q.01

Does the SD42212T-HN-S2 have built-in night vision?

No. This model has no built-in IR illuminator and relies on available ambient light at night. It suits lit sites such as car parks, loading areas and externally lit entries. For completely dark positions, add external lighting or choose a camera with built-in IR.
Q.02

What power does it need?

It needs PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) or a 24V DC supply, drawing about 12W. Standard 802.3af PoE may not reliably power the PTZ motor, so confirm your switch or injector supports 802.3at before installing.
Q.03

What does the 12x optical zoom cover?

The 5.3-64mm lens gives a wide view at its shortest length and a close-up at 64mm, so one camera can monitor a broad area then zoom into a vehicle, person or sign from the same position.
Q.04

Does it classify people and vehicles?

The datasheet lists IVS tripwire, intrusion and abandoned or missing object detection plus face detection, but it does not specify human and vehicle classification or SMD Plus. For classified human and vehicle alerts, choose a WizSense PTZ that lists those features.
Q.05

Does it have a microphone or speaker?

It provides line audio in and out for external devices, but no built-in microphone or speaker, so on-camera audio needs external hardware.
Q.06

Is it suitable for outdoor and vandal-prone areas?

Yes. The compact metal housing is IP66 against dust and water jets and IK10 against impact, suiting exposed outdoor positions where weather and tampering are concerns.
Q.07

How does the Starlight sensor help without IR?

The 1/2.8-inch Sony STARVIS sensor is more sensitive than standard sensors, so it holds usable colour detail under street, car park or building lighting. It still needs some ambient light, as there is no IR to fall back on.
Q.08

Is there a lead time on this model?

Yes. This camera has an 8-week lead time from Dahua, so allow for that in project scheduling and confirm timing before committing to a fixed install date.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

02

PoE+ power

Power from an 802.3at source such as the Dahua PoE switch (confirm the port supplies PoE+) and run quality Cat6 cable to the camera, or use a 24V DC supply.
