§ 01Overview

What the IPC-HFW81230E-ZE is

The Dahua DH-IPC-HFW81230E-ZE is a 12MP Ultra-series bullet built to cover a wide area in very high resolution and let you zoom into recorded footage for detail.

A 1/1.7-inch 12MP sensor captures 4000 x 3000 at 20fps (or 4K at 25/30fps) with a motorised 4.1-16.4mm lens and Low-light imaging with F1.53 aperture, and Smart IR reaches up to 50m.

The motorised lens lets you set the field of view from the recorder after mounting.

It includes IVS tripwire and intrusion detection along with people counting and heat map functions for basic business analysis, and ePoE transmission allows cable runs up to 800m at 10Mbps with a compatible recorder or switch.

The IP67 and IK10 housing suits exposed and higher-risk sites, and it powers from 12V DC or PoE+ (802.3at).

Because a 12MP stream is large, plan for an NVR with the bandwidth and storage to handle it; on an older or lower-spec recorder you can run it at a lower resolution for smoother playback.

This is an Ultra-series model that the manufacturer has marked as discontinued, so availability is by enquiry and lead times may be longer; contact us to confirm before planning the install.

It has audio in and out for external devices but no built-in microphone, and records monochrome at night under infrared.

50m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 50m — good for longer driveways, car parks and wider properties. People and vehicles stay visible well beyond the reach of a porch light.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the IPC-HFW81230E-ZE

Very high 12MP detail

A 12MP sensor covers a large area and still lets you zoom into recorded footage to read faces, signs and detail.

Long cable runs with ePoE

ePoE supports runs up to 800m, so the camera can sit a long way from the recorder on a large site.

Flexible framing

A motorised 4.1-16.4mm lens sets the angle of view from the recorder, from a wide overview to a tighter, longer reach.

Tough outdoor housing

An IP67 and IK10 metal housing suits exposed and higher-risk positions on walls, poles and parapets.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Car parks and forecourts

One 12MP camera covers a wide lot and zooms into recorded footage for a vehicle, bay or incident as needed.

Large frontages and yards

Covers a broad building frontage or yard from a single mount, reducing the number of cameras required.

Long-cable-run sites

ePoE suits large sites such as depots and campuses where the camera is well beyond a standard 100m cable run.

Wide-area overview

Provides a high-resolution overview where you need both situational awareness and the ability to zoom into detail later.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Size the NVR, bandwidth and storage

Plan for an NVR that can handle a 12MP stream with the bandwidth and storage it needs. If an existing recorder cannot keep up at full resolution, run the camera at 4K for smoother playback.

02

Mount and power the camera

Fix the bullet to a wall, pole or parapet with a clear view, and power it from 12V DC or PoE+ (802.3at); use ePoE with a compatible recorder for long runs.

03

Confirm availability first

This Ultra-series model is marked discontinued, so contact us to confirm current availability and lead time before planning the install.

04

Set the lens and analytics

Frame the scene with the motorised lens from the recorder, then configure IVS, people counting and heat map functions as needed.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the IPC-HFW81230E-ZE

Q.01

What does the 12MP resolution give me?

At 4000 x 3000 it captures far more detail across a wide scene, so you can cover a large area and still zoom into recorded footage to make out a face, sign or object. This suits car parks, forecourts and large frontages where one camera needs to do the work of several.
Q.02

Will any NVR handle the full 12MP stream?

Plan for a capable NVR with the bandwidth and storage to handle a 12MP stream, as the camera has a high total bit rate. On an older or lower-spec recorder that struggles at full resolution, run the camera at a lower resolution such as 4K for smoother playback while keeping strong detail.
Q.03

What does ePoE do on this camera?

ePoE allows much longer cable runs than standard PoE, up to 800m at 10Mbps over Cat or coax with a compatible recorder or switch. This is useful on large sites where the camera is a long way from the recorder and a standard 100m run is not enough.
Q.04

What detection and analytics does it include?

It runs IVS tripwire and intrusion detection for rule-based alerting, plus people counting and heat map functions for basic business analysis. It is an earlier Ultra-series model, so it does not include the SMD human and vehicle classification found on current WizMind and WizSense cameras.
Q.05

Is this model still available?

The manufacturer has marked this Ultra-series model as discontinued, so it is supplied by enquiry rather than held in regular stock, and lead times may be longer. Contact us to confirm current availability and timing before planning the install.
Q.06

Does it record audio?

It has audio input and output terminals for connecting external audio devices, but it does not have a built-in microphone or speaker. On its own it does not capture on-site audio or support two-way talk.
Q.07

How is it powered?

It accepts 12V DC or PoE+ (802.3at), drawing under 13W, and supports ePoE for long cable runs with a compatible recorder or switch. Use a PoE+ source rather than standard 802.3af to ensure a reliable power budget.
Q.08

Is it suitable for exposed or higher-risk sites?

Yes. The metal housing carries both IP67 weather sealing and an IK10 impact rating, suiting exposed walls, poles and parapets and positions where tampering is a concern.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

02

Power and cabling

Use PoE+ (802.3at) or ePoE for long runs with quality Cat6 cable, or supply 12V DC. A standard 802.3af port will not reliably power this camera.

03

Confirm availability

This Ultra-series model is marked discontinued by the manufacturer. Contact us to confirm current availability and lead time before planning the install.
