When choosing between TP-Link VIGI IR cameras in this collection, consider these dimensions:

IR range — Standard VIGI IR cameras (e.g. C340I, C330I) typically reach 30 m. The InSight varifocal series (S445ZI turret, S345ZI bullet) extends to 60 m. Pick longer-range models for car parks, driveways, and perimeter runs; standard range is fine for corridors and entry points.

Form factor — Turret cameras (dome-shaped, separate IR LEDs around the lens) give the best IR performance because the LEDs are away from the lens glass, eliminating the internal reflection ("IR flare") that dome cameras are prone to. Bullet cameras project further and act as a visual deterrent. Fisheye cameras (360°) eliminate blind spots in open indoor spaces like warehouses and showrooms. Dome cameras offer vandal-resistant IK10 housings for exposed commercial installs.

Resolution — 4MP is the sweet spot for most residential and small commercial uses. 8MP (4K) is worth the premium for wide outdoor scenes, car parks, or when you need to identify licence plates or faces at distance. 5MP fisheye (InSight S655I) covers entire rooms in a single camera.

Lens type — Fixed 2.8 mm gives ~111° wide-angle coverage (great for driveways and yards). Fixed 4 mm narrows to ~87° with more detail. Motorised varifocal on the S445ZI and S345ZI (2.8–12 mm, 5× optical zoom) lets you dial in the exact field of view remotely after installation — the right call if you're unsure at time of purchase or need precise framing.

Panoramic models — The S485PI and S385PI use a single wide-angle lens to deliver 180° panoramic coverage, which can replace two or three standard cameras in a wide-area application like a shopfront or carpark entrance.

Power — PoE cameras draw power from the NVR or a PoE switch via Cat6 cable (single cable, clean install). Some models also support 12V DC if PoE isn't available. Confirm your NVR or switch supports the PoE standard (802.3af/at) required by the specific model.

Audio — Not all VIGI IR cameras include built-in microphones. Check the model datasheet if audio recording is a requirement. Two-way audio (microphone + speaker) appears on selected InSight Series models.
