§ 01Overview

What the DS-2TD2617-10/QA is

The Hikvision DS-2TD2617-10/QA is a bi-spectrum HeatPro camera that pairs a thermal sensor with a 4 MP optical camera in one housing.

The thermal module sees heat rather than light, so it works in complete darkness, through smoke and against strong backlight, while the optical module adds a 2688 x 1520 visual image for context.

The two streams together give you both a heat map and a normal picture of the same scene.

Its core job is temperature and fire safety.

It measures object temperatures from -20 °C to 150 °C with ±8 °C accuracy across up to 21 measurement rules, and it raises temperature-exception alarms for early fire and smoke detection - well before a normal camera would see flames.

It also runs perimeter analytics such as line crossing and intrusion, and includes a white-light strobe and audio alarm for active deterrence.

Typical sites include substations, hydro and power stations, waste and recycling plants, warehouses and manufacturing floors.

One honest, important note.

This is a thermal safety and perimeter camera, not a replacement for a normal identification CCTV camera.

Its thermal resolution is 160 x 120, which is excellent for detecting heat, temperature changes and movement but cannot read faces or number plates the way a high-resolution optical camera does.

Use it alongside standard cameras where you need both heat detection and visual identification.

It is an IP66 network camera, so it records to an ONVIF-compatible NVR.

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

40m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 40m, reaching further across a larger yard or laneway. Subjects appear in clear black-and-white, sharper and brighter as they get closer.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-2TD2617-10/QA

Sees heat, not just light

A thermal module detects temperature and movement in total darkness, smoke and glare where optical cameras fail.

Early fire warning

Temperature-exception alarms flag abnormal heat before flames are visible, for genuine early fire detection.

Heat plus a visual picture

A 4 MP optical module adds normal video alongside the thermal stream for context.

Built for industrial sites

An IP66 housing, strobe and audio alarm suit substations, plants, warehouses and yards.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Substations and power

Monitor equipment temperatures and flag overheating before it becomes a fault or fire.

Waste and recycling plants

Detect hot spots in stockpiles and bunkers for early fire warning.

Warehouses and manufacturing

Watch for abnormal heat around machinery, storage and processes.

Perimeters in darkness

Detect intruders across a boundary in complete darkness using the thermal stream.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DS-2TD2617-10/QA thermal HeatPro bi-spectrum camera with mounting hardware and documentation. The PoE switch or NVR, network cable, microSD card and any bracket are supplied separately.

02

Installation requirements

Mount it on an outdoor wall or pole aimed at the equipment, area or perimeter to monitor, and set the temperature measurement, fire/smoke and perimeter rules in the software for the scene. Connect it to an ONVIF-compatible NVR for recording, and fit a microSD card for on-board storage. Position and calibrate it for the temperature range and distances you need to cover.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-2TD2617-10/QA

Q.01

What is the DS-2TD2617-10/QA used for?

It is a thermal and optical bi-spectrum camera for temperature monitoring and early fire detection. It measures object temperatures, raises alarms when something gets too hot or too cold, and detects smoke and fire early, which suits substations, power and recycling plants, warehouses and manufacturing sites.
Q.02

Can it replace a normal CCTV camera for identifying people?

No. Its thermal module is 160 x 120 resolution, which is built to detect heat, temperature change and movement rather than to read faces or number plates. Use it alongside standard high-resolution cameras where you need visual identification as well as heat detection.
Q.03

How accurate is the temperature measurement?

It measures object temperatures from -20 to 150 degrees C with an accuracy of about +/-8 degrees C, using up to 21 measurement rules across points, areas and a line. That is intended for trend monitoring and exception alarms rather than precision laboratory measurement.
Q.04

How does it detect fire early?

The thermal sensor sees heat directly, so it can flag an abnormal hot spot or a rapid temperature rise before there are visible flames, and it includes dedicated fire and smoke detection. It can then trigger recording, relay output, FTP upload or email alerts.
Q.05

Does it work in darkness and smoke?

Yes. Because the thermal module images heat rather than visible light, it works in complete darkness, through smoke and against strong backlight. The optical module also adds 40 m infrared and 40 m white light for a visual image.
Q.06

Is it suitable for outdoors?

Yes. It has an IP66-rated weatherproof housing against dust and heavy rain, so it can be mounted outdoors on walls and poles at industrial and commercial sites.
Q.07

Does it have a deterrent?

Yes. It includes a white-light strobe and an audio alarm, so when a temperature, fire or perimeter rule is triggered it can flash and sound a warning as well as send an alert.
Q.08

How does it record?

It is an ONVIF network camera, so it records to a compatible NVR over the network, and it has a microSD slot up to 256 GB for on-board storage if the network drops.

02

Add identification cameras

Pair the thermal camera with high-resolution optical cameras such as the 8MP DS-2CD2167G3-LIS2UY where you also need to read faces and plates.

03

Add wide-area overview

Combine it with the DS-2CD6D52G0-IH(S) PanoVu dual-lens camera for broad situational awareness across a site.
