§ 01Overview
What the HIK-2CE17U8T-IT is
The Hikvision DS-2CE17U8T-IT is an 8 MP (4K) Turbo HD outdoor bullet that delivers true 4K resolution over coaxial cable.
It belongs to Hikvision's TVI 4.0 range, which exists for one reason: to upgrade an existing analogue site to high definition without pulling new cable.
If a building already has coax to each camera point, this lets you reach 3840 x 2160 detail for face and number-plate work without the cost and disruption of rewiring to IP.
It is built for image quality in tough light.
An 8.29-megapixel ultra-low-light sensor holds colour down to 0.003 Lux, 120 dB true Wide Dynamic Range balances bright sky against shaded ground, and 3D digital noise reduction keeps the picture clean after dark.
Infrared 2.0 Smart IR reaches up to 40 metres and dials the brightness back so close subjects are not washed out.
The camera comes with a fixed 2.8, 3.6 or 6 mm lens, and the IP67 metal housing is rated for exposed outdoor positions.
Two points decide whether this is the right camera.
First, it is analogue HD-TVI, not an IP camera: it must connect to a DVR that supports 8 MP Turbo HD over coax, and it does not use PoE, so it will not plug into a network switch or NVR.
Second, it is powered by 12 VDC, supplied separately or down the coax run as your DVR system allows, and you can control settings up the coax.
At 8 MP the frame rate is around 12.5 to 15 fps, which suits detailed monitoring rather than fast action.
It records audio? No, this is a video-only camera.

8MP Ultra HD
Even when a person or car is far down the driveway, you can zoom in and still recognise a face or read a number plate — detail that lower-resolution cameras lose.

§ 04Why choose this
Built for the way you actually use the HIK-2CE17U8T-IT
Clear in tough light
An ultra-low-light sensor, 120 dB true WDR and 3D DNR keep faces and plates readable against bright sky and after dark.
Reliable night coverage
EXIR 2.0 Smart IR reaches 40 metres and balances brightness so close subjects stay clear, not washed out.
Built for outdoors
An IP67 metal body and a choice of three fixed lenses make it a straightforward, weatherproof upgrade for any coax site.
§ 05Where it fits
Right at home in these scenarios
Analogue site upgrades
Replace ageing analogue cameras with 4K detail while keeping the existing coax cabling and DVR-based system.
Retail and forecourts
High-resolution coverage of entrances, tills and fuel pumps where face and plate detail matters.
Yards and car parks
Wide outdoor coverage with strong night vision on sites already wired for coax.
Warehouses and loading docks
Detailed monitoring of doors and bays in high-contrast lighting, without a network rebuild.
§ 06Setup
Installation & setup
Check your recorder
Confirm your DVR supports 8 MP (4K) Turbo HD over coax. This camera will not work on an IP NVR or network switch, so the DVR is the first thing to match.
Power and cabling
Run video over the existing coax and provide 12 VDC at the camera, either from a local supply or a combined power-and-video coax setup. There is no PoE.
Mounting
Fix the IP67 bullet to a wall or eave aimed along the area you want covered, and pick the 2.8, 3.6 or 6 mm lens for the right field of view.
Setup
Adjust settings up the coax from the DVR, set the WDR and IR behaviour, and use the CVBS output if you need a quick local view during install.

§ 09Bundles
Recommended packages
Match it to a Turbo HD DVR
This is a coax camera, so pair it with a DVR that supports 8 MP Turbo HD, such as the iDS-7208HTHI-M2/S 8MP 8-channel DVR, which also accepts HD-TVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP.
Add surveillance storage
Fit a 2TB surveillance hard drive or a 6TB surveillance hard drive in the DVR, rated for continuous recording rather than a desktop drive.
Plan for 4K bandwidth
Size the DVR and drive for 8 MP recording across your cameras, and keep coax runs within spec so the 4K signal stays clean over distance.
