§ 01Overview

What the DS-2CD2T66G2-2I is

The Hikvision DS-2CD2T66G2-2I is a 6MP outdoor AcuSense bullet camera and one of the brand's most popular all-round outdoor cameras. AcuSense gen 2 uses deep learning to classify people and vehicles, so the events it records and alerts on are real intruders rather than insects, swaying branches or the neighbour's cat, which makes searching recorded footage far quicker.

It records 6MP (3200 x 1800) through a 2.8mm, 4mm or 6mm fixed lens, so you can pick a wide view for a yard or a longer reach for a driveway entrance (the 6mm carries detection out past 150 metres). DarkFighter low-light processing and 120dB true WDR keep the picture usable at dusk and against strong backlight, and EXIR infrared reaches up to 60 metres at night with Smart IR to avoid over-exposing close subjects. As an infrared camera it records in black and white in full darkness; if you need colour at night, the ColorVu models suit better.

The metal housing is IP67-rated for rain and dust, and the camera runs over PoE (802.3af) or 12V DC. It takes a microSD card up to 256GB for on-board recording and works with Hikvision AcuSense NVRs and the Hik-Connect app. It is normally installed by a security or cabling technician.

What the DS-2CD2T66G2-2I features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

6MP Ultra HD

6MP captures around three times the detail of 1080p. Plenty of resolution to zoom into a face or number plate part-way down the driveway and still read it clearly.

60m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 60m, covering long driveways and large properties. Even well away from the house, people and vehicles remain clear in black-and-white.

False Alarm Reduction

Filtering helps separate real activity from harmless movement like rain, leaves or pets, so you get fewer pointless notifications and the alerts that matter stand out.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-2CD2T66G2-2I

Fewer false alerts

AcuSense gen 2 only flags people and vehicles, so insects, rain, animals and moving branches stop triggering your phone.

Long night reach

60m EXIR with Smart IR lights up a full driveway or yard at night, with a 4mm or 6mm lens to read detail at distance.

Proven all-rounder

A 6MP IP67 bullet that handles most residential and small-business outdoor jobs without fuss or extra accessories.

Backed locally

Supplied by an authorised dealer with a 3-year warranty and Australia-wide support.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Driveways and front yards

Cover a driveway or front yard with a 4mm lens and 60m IR, getting AI alerts only on people and vehicles.

Rear yards and laneways

Watch a back yard, laneway or gate with the long IR reach and weatherproof housing for exposed runs.

Business car parks

Monitor a car park or loading area, using the 6mm lens to read detail toward the far end of the lot.

Acreage approaches

Cover a long rural driveway or shed approach, where the 6mm lens carries detection well past 150 metres.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What it is

A 6MP AcuSense outdoor bullet with EXIR night vision; choose the 2.8mm, 4mm or 6mm lens in your order comments.

02

Power and cabling

Run one Cat5e/6 cable and power it over PoE (802.3af) from a PoE switch or NVR, or use 12V DC where PoE is not available.

03

Mounting

Fix the bracket to a wall or soffit at about 2.5-3 m and aim along the area to cover; the long IR suits open driveways and yards.

04

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the camera and adds it to the NVR or app. Add it in Hik-Connect or your NVR, then set human/vehicle detection zones and Smart IR night mode.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-2CD2T66G2-2I

Q.01

Which lens size should I choose, 2.8mm, 4mm or 6mm?

Choose 2.8mm for a wide view in tight areas such as a small yard (about 105 degrees), 4mm for general driveways and front yards, and 6mm to identify faces or plates at a longer distance such as a driveway entrance 15 metres or more away.
Q.02

What is the difference between the -2I and -4I models?

The only difference is IR night-vision range. The -2I reaches up to 60m and the -4I up to 80m, so choose the -4I for a long driveway, rear yard or large open area.
Q.03

Will it work with my existing older Hikvision NVR?

It connects to older GUI3 NVRs on current firmware, but the AcuSense human and vehicle alerts must be set in the camera's own web interface. For full NVR-level AcuSense, a newer compatible NVR is recommended.
Q.04

Will I still get false alarms from insects, leaves or animals?

No. AcuSense gen 2 filters out non-human, non-vehicle motion, so insects, swaying trees and animals do not trigger alerts, which is a big improvement over basic motion detection.
Q.05

Does it record in colour at night or black and white?

It uses infrared for night vision, so it records in black and white in darkness. It is not a ColorVu model, so consider the ColorVu range if full-colour night footage is a priority.
Q.06

Can I power it with PoE or do I need a power supply?

It supports both. Use standard PoE (802.3af) over one Ethernet cable, or a 12V DC supply. PoE is the most common option for clean installs.
Q.07

Does it have built-in storage or do I need an NVR?

It has a microSD slot up to 256GB for standalone local recording, so it can run without an NVR. For multi-camera setups or long retention, pair it with a Hikvision NVR.
Q.08

What warranty applies when buying in Australia?

Units sold through authorised Australian distributors carry a 3-year back-to-base warranty. Grey-market imports may not, so confirm the seller sources stock through official Hikvision Australia channels.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

02

Add storage

Fit a surveillance drive such as the 6TB or 8TB in the NVR for continuous 6MP recording.

03

Mount and protect cabling

Add the DS-1280ZJ-S junction box or DS-1260ZJ bracket for tidy, weather-protected terminations.

04

Want colour at night?

For 24/7 colour instead of IR black-and-white, compare the DS-2CD2T67G2H ColorVu bullet.
