Hikvision iDS-MCD402-E 4G Dual-Lens ANPR Portable Speed Dome — 36× Zoom, AI Detection, 9hr Battery
- Dual 4MP Lenses With 36× Optical Zoom: Two high-resolution lenses — a motorised 36× zoom and a wide-angle fixed lens — operate simultaneously to deliver long-range subject detail alongside broad scene awareness from a single unit, removing the trade-off between overview and close-up that limits single-lens PTZ cameras.
- On-Board ANPR, Face Recognition, and AI Behaviour Detection: AI analytics process locally without a backend server, covering automatic number plate recognition, face recognition, and behaviour-based detection for smoking, phone use, and missing PPE such as hard hats — critical for roadside, event, and construction compliance deployments.
- 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth Connectivity: Multiple wireless options allow the unit to transmit live footage and alerts from locations without fixed network infrastructure. GPS tagging confirms deployment location for incident records, and Bluetooth supports local device configuration.
- 9-Hour Replaceable Battery With Magnetic/Tripod Deployment: A hot-swappable lithium-ion battery provides up to 9 hours of operation per charge. The magnetic base attaches to vehicle roofs in minutes; the tripod mount supports freestanding placement — neither requires drilling, cabling, or permanent infrastructure.

§ 01Overview
What the iDS-MCD402-E is
Built for rapid deployment in the field, the Hikvision iDS-MCD402-E is a portable 4G speed dome combining dual-lens optics, on-board AI analytics, and wireless connectivity in a self-contained unit.
A 36× optical zoom lens works alongside a wide-angle fixed lens to provide both detailed subject capture and broad situational awareness from a single device.
Incorporating automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), face recognition, and AI-based behaviour detection covering smoking, phone use, and missing PPE such as helmets, the iDS-MCD402-E is designed for law enforcement, event security, construction compliance, and temporary surveillance operations where a fixed camera installation is not practical.
It connects via 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, includes GPS for location tracking, and runs from a replaceable lithium-ion battery rated for up to 9 hours.
Deployment options include a magnetic base or tripod mount, and an on-board status screen provides at-a-glance operational feedback.

§ 04Why choose this
Built for the way you actually use the iDS-MCD402-E
Dual Lenses Eliminate the Zoom vs. Awareness Trade-Off
The 36× zoom lens captures detail at range while the wide-angle fixed lens maintains scene awareness simultaneously. Operators do not lose situational awareness when zooming in on a subject — a significant operational limitation of single-lens PTZ units.
On-Board AI Without Server Dependency
ANPR, face recognition, and behaviour detection all run locally on the camera. This means the unit is fully functional at remote sites where only 4G connectivity is available, with alert data transmitted back to a control room over the mobile connection.
Hot-Swappable Battery for Extended Operations
The replaceable battery design means runtime is limited only by available spare batteries, not by charging time. Operators can carry spares for extended shifts without interruption, and battery status is visible on the on-board screen at all times.
§ 05Where it fits
Right at home in these scenarios
Law Enforcement Checkpoints
ANPR processing identifies stolen or flagged vehicles in real time. The magnetic base allows the unit to be mounted directly to a patrol vehicle roof and operational within minutes of arrival at a checkpoint location, transmitting plate alerts over 4G.
Temporary Event Security
Face recognition allows security teams to screen crowds at entry points. The tripod deployment and 4G connectivity allow the unit to be placed at temporary entry gates without any fixed infrastructure preparation, then removed cleanly when the event ends.
Construction Site PPE Compliance
AI behaviour detection flags workers not wearing hard hats or high-visibility vests, and detects smoking or phone use in restricted zones. The portable form factor means the unit can be repositioned across a large site as work areas and exclusion zones change.
Remote and Off-Grid Monitoring
4G/5G connectivity transmits footage and AI alerts from locations where fixed network infrastructure does not exist. GPS positioning allows command centres to confirm the exact location of each deployed unit — critical for remote area surveillance and special investigations.
§ 06Setup
Installation & setup
SIM Card and Connectivity Setup
Insert an active 4G/5G SIM card with adequate data plan before deployment. Confirm carrier signal strength at the intended deployment location before relying on live remote access. Wi-Fi can be used where a local access point is available at the deployment site.
Magnetic Base Deployment
The magnetic base is rated for attachment to ferrous metal surfaces such as vehicle roofs. Position the unit with a clear line of sight to the target zone, ensuring the magnetic surface is clean and flat. The unit is not suitable for attachment to non-metallic, curved, or painted surfaces where magnetic hold may be compromised.
Tripod Mount Setup
Extend the tripod legs fully and lock each section before mounting the camera head. On uneven ground, adjust individual leg lengths to level the base. In windy conditions, weight the tripod base or use ground stakes to prevent tip-over.
Battery Management for Extended Shifts
The standard battery runtime of up to 9 hours is rated under typical operating conditions. Continuous high-zoom PTZ movement, active AI processing, and 4G streaming simultaneously will draw more power. For shifts exceeding 9 hours, carry spare batteries and plan swap intervals based on observed consumption during the first deployment.
