§ 01Overview

What the QNV-8080R is

The Hanwha QNV-8080R is a 5MP outdoor vandal dome camera in the Wisenet NEW-Q Series, built around a 3.2-10mm motorised varifocal lens with 3.1x optical zoom that can be adjusted remotely over the network.

Framing can be dialled in from the comfort of a workstation after the unit is mounted and cabled — the direct labour saving over a fixed-lens dome when commissioning multi-camera sites.

Resolution reaches 2592x1944 at up to 30fps under H.265, H.264, and MJPEG codecs, with WiseStream II smart compression cutting bandwidth by up to 50% on its own — up to 75% combined with H.265 versus H.264.

A 120dB Wide Dynamic Range sensor manages high-contrast scenes like counter areas with bright background windows and glazed entry lobbies, while 30m IR extends usable coverage into low-light or unlit areas after site lighting shuts down.

The IP66-sealed aluminium housing plus IK10 impact rating suit protected outdoor overhangs and publicly accessible mounts where deliberate interference or harsh weather are risks, with a microSD/SDHC/SDXC slot supporting cards up to 128GB for edge recording.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the QNV-8080R

Dial in Framing After Install

The 3.2-10mm motorised varifocal lens lets you set zoom and focus remotely via the web viewer or Wisenet WAVE — a slightly wrong guess about mounting position does not mean climbing back up to reposition the housing.

Cut Installer Labour on Multi-Camera Sites

Remote framing adjustment saves site visits when commissioning several domes across a building or reconfiguring after a tenancy change. Particularly relevant on multi-dome retail rollouts and multi-tenant office fitouts.

Bandwidth-Friendly on Shared NVR Storage

WiseStream II compression cuts bitrate up to 50% on quiet scenes, and up to 75% combined with H.265 versus H.264 — keeping shared NVR storage predictable on multi-camera sites.

Built for Publicly Accessible Outdoor Mounts

IP66-sealed aluminium plus IK10 impact rating handle protected overhangs, retail entries, and school-facing walls where deliberate interference or wind-driven rain are considered risks.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Retail Store Ceilings and Counter Areas

Ceiling mount above tellers or POS zones with the varifocal lens tightened onto the transaction area, or widened to cover the whole floor. 120dB WDR keeps subject detail readable against bright shopfront glazing during peak trading hours.

Office Corridors and Lobby Entrances

Dial the lens to frame a specific stretch of corridor or foyer without opening the housing after install. IK10 impact rating suits publicly accessible mounts around entry lobbies where tampering is a considered risk.

Protected Outdoor Overhangs and Loading Bays

30m IR sustains scene coverage over loading bays and covered outdoor delivery areas overnight, while IP66 sealing handles Australian exterior conditions from summer sun to wind-driven rain.

Multi-Dome Site Commissioning

Remote framing adjustment saves site visits when rolling out multiple domes across a bank branch network, apartment complex, or multi-tenant office. Combined with WiseStream II, the NVR storage load stays predictable at scale.

Installation & setup

01

What is in the Box

1. Hanwha QNV-8080R Camera x 1 2. Mounting Screws & Anchors x 1 set 3. Quick Start Guide x 1

02

Installation Requirements

1. Power: PoE (IEEE 802.3af) — verify PoE switch/injector budget when adding multiple cameras. 2. Storage: microSD / SDHC / SDXC card, max 128GB, 1 slot, for edge recording failover. 3. Mounting: ceiling, soffit, or wall — aluminium vandal dome housing. 4. Sealing: preserve the IP66 rating by sealing all conduit and cable entries.

03

App/Software Setup

1. Access via web viewer, or add to Hanwha Wisenet WAVE or SSM software. 2. Power the camera via PoE and allow it to initialise on the network. 3. Discover via ONVIF, then dial in zoom and focus remotely on the varifocal lens without opening the housing. 4. Configure motion zones, defocus and tampering alerts as part of commissioning.

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the QNV-8080R

Q.01

Q: What field of view can I get from the QNV-8080R?

A: The 3.2-10mm motorised varifocal lens with 3.1x optical zoom lets you dial in framing anywhere between wide-area coverage at 3.2mm and a tighter, longer-reach frame at 10mm. Framing is adjusted remotely over the network — no site revisit needed to reposition the shot.
Q.02

Q: How far does the night vision reach?

A: Built-in IR extends usable scene coverage to 30m — enough for typical loading bays, covered walkways, or courtyard-facing entries. Beyond that distance image detail drops off.
Q.03

Q: Can I adjust framing after the camera is already mounted?

A: Yes — that is the primary difference over a fixed-lens dome. Zoom and focus on the motorised varifocal lens are controlled from the web viewer or Wisenet WAVE, so getting mounting slightly wrong doesn't mean climbing back up to reposition the housing.
Q.04

Q: How much bandwidth does WiseStream II actually save?

A: WiseStream II dynamically adjusts encoding complexity to scene motion — cutting bandwidth by up to 50% on quiet scenes on its own, and up to 75% combined with H.265 versus H.264. On a multi-camera NVR site, this is the difference between a comfortable storage runway and constantly clearing out oldest footage.
Q.05

Q: Is the housing rated for direct outdoor exposure?

A: Yes — IEC 60529 IP66 (dust-tight, protected against water jets) and IEC 62262 IK10 (impact resistance). Seal all cable and conduit entries to preserve the IP66 rating.
Q.06

Q: How much microSD storage is supported?

A: A single microSD / SDHC / SDXC slot supports cards up to 128GB. Intended as a failover buffer when the primary NVR or network link is temporarily unavailable, not a long-term archive.
Q.07

Q: Can I use this with a third-party NVR / VMS?

A: The QNV-8080R supports ONVIF for standard third-party integration — the technical basis for Blue Iris, Home Assistant ONVIF, and generic VMS compatibility. Test ONVIF compatibility with your specific recorder before large rollouts; for full feature access pair with Hanwha Wisenet WAVE or SSM.
Q.08

Q: I want to open several streams from this camera at once — is there a limit?

A: Q-series cameras support a maximum of 3 simultaneous streaming profiles; opening a 4th drops one of the existing connections. Plan NVR/VMS channel assignments around that limit.
Q.09

Q: Should I patch the firmware before deployment?

A: Yes. Hanwha disclosed CVE-2023-5037 and CVE-2023-5038 affecting Q-series firmware in November 2023; both are resolved in firmware 1.41.16 and later. Confirm patched firmware as part of commissioning.
Q.10

Q: Why pick the QNV-8080R over the cheaper QNV-8020R?

A: For framing flexibility. The 8020R uses a 4mm fixed lens; the 8080R uses a 3.2-10mm motorised varifocal with 3.1x optical zoom that can be adjusted remotely. If the field of view is fixed long-term (a specific retail counter or corridor), the 8020R is a simpler and cheaper choice; if framing may need to change (multi-tenant office, evolving retail floor), the 8080R saves site visits over the life of the deployment.
