What the IPC-EBW81242-AS-S2 is

The Dahua IPC-EBW81242-AS-S2 is a 12 MP WizMind fisheye built to watch a whole space from a single point.

Mounted in the centre of a ceiling, its 1.85 mm panoramic lens captures a 360-degree view of the floor below in 4000 x 3000 detail, so one camera replaces several fixed cameras and removes the blind spots between them.

Built-in dewarping presents the circular image as usable panoramic and quad views on screen.

What sets it apart is what it does with that view.

WizMind deep-learning analytics generate heat maps that show where people spend time, count people entering and leaving, and measure queues and dwell time, which makes it as useful to a retail or venue manager as to security.

It also runs IVS rules such as tripwire and intrusion with human-focused refinement to cut nuisance alarms.

Worth being clear here: this is a business-analytics and overview camera, not a human-and-vehicle perimeter camera, so it is not the tool for classifying vehicles along a boundary.

A couple of honest points on the spec.

Audio is by a built-in dual microphone with line in and line out connectors, so to talk back you add an external active speaker; it does not include a built-in speaker, so it is not a two-way-audio camera on its own.

Infrared reaches about 10 metres, which suits a typical room ceiling for low-light cover rather than long-range night security, so it is at its best indoors or under a sheltered canopy.

The IP67 and IK10 metal body does allow sheltered outdoor mounting.

Power is PoE+ or 12 VDC, and H.265 keeps the large 12 MP stream efficient.

WizMind fisheye camera, mounting plate and the printed guide. A flush, pendant or wall-mount kit is selected to suit the ceiling and bought separately.

Power and cabling

Run a single network cable for PoE+ (802.3at), or use 12 VDC. A gigabit path keeps the 12 MP stream from being throttled.

Mounting

Fit it in the centre of the ceiling over the area you want covered, as high and central as practical, so the 360-degree view is even and the dewarped images stay balanced.

Its infrared reaches about 10 metres, which suits a normal room or sheltered area for low-light cover rather than long-range outdoor night security. For a dark, open outdoor area you would add separate lighting or use a camera built for longer-range night vision.

The metal body is rated IP67 against dust and water and IK10 against impact, so it can be fitted under a sheltered canopy, eave or covered walkway outdoors. Because of the short infrared range it is best where there is some ambient or overhead light at night.
