Bosch RFDW-RM RADION Wireless Recessed Door Contact

SKU: RFDW-RM
Description

The Bosch RFDW-RM is the RADION contact that nobody sees: a wireless magnetic reed switch in a slim cylinder that drills into the door or window frame, leaving the opening protected and the hardware hidden.

What you get

  • 1 × RFDW-RM recessed contact and its magnet assembly
  • 1 × AAA lithium battery, 1 × hardware pack and 1 × installation guide

You'll also need

  • A RADION receiver on the alarm panel, such as the RFRC-STR2
  • A drill bit sized for the cylinder, and a frame with enough depth to take it
  • The surface-mount RFDW-SM instead, where a frame cannot be drilled

§ 01Overview

What the RFDW-RM is

The Bosch RFDW-RM is for the door where a surface-mounted contact would look wrong or invite tampering: a front entry in a renovated house, a display room, a shopfront. The transmitter lives in a 15.4 mm diameter cylinder that goes into the frame, and the magnet goes into the moving part opposite it, so once the door is shut there is nothing to see.

Detection is a reed contact near the end of the cylinder. While the supplied magnet stays within 14 mm of it, the contact reads closed; once the gap exceeds 14 mm, an alarm signal goes to the receiver on 433.42 MHz. Concealment comes with a condition: the two halves have to line up well enough to hold that gap when the door is shut.

It can also be fitted without drilling. The transmitter and magnet assembly have break-away tabs, so removing them allows a flush mount while leaving them in place allows a surface mount, which is useful on a frame that turns out to be too shallow once the job starts.

The cylinder enclosure is built for durability and provides tamper protection, and the contact is supervised for low battery and cover tamper, so both a flat cell and a removed cover are reported to the panel rather than passing unnoticed. One AAA lithium cell at 1.5 VDC runs it for up to five years, and it is supplied with the alarm.

It is an indoor device for a functional range of -10 to 49 degrees Celsius at up to 93% non-condensing humidity, with a 22 mm x 28 mm x 15 mm magnet assembly. It does not suit an outdoor opening, and the frame has to be deep enough to take the cylinder. Installation on metal surfaces can also affect the radio propagation pattern, so a steel frame deserves a test before the hole is drilled to final depth. This is the version for Europe, Africa and Australia, and it carries CE and EN50131 approval.

RFDW-RM specifications

Bosch RFDW-RM concealment — recessed cylinder transmitter, 15.4 mm across, fitted into the door or window frame — the contact is invisible with the door shut
Detection — reed contact alarms when the magnet moves more than 14 mm away — a tight, deliberate gap that suits a well-fitted door
Flexible fitting — break-away tabs allow a flush mount, or leave them for a surface mount — one part covers a frame that turns out to be too shallow
Durability and tamper — cylinder enclosure built for durability with tamper protection, cover tamper transmitted — a concealed contact that still reports interference
Supervision — low battery and cover tamper both reported to the panel — a flat cell is a message, not a silent gap
Battery — one AAA lithium cell at 1.5 VDC, up to five years, listed among the parts included — the cell is in the pack
Radio — 433.42 MHz to a RADION receiver — no cable between it and the panel
Environment — indoor use, up to 93% non-condensing humidity, 22 mm x 28 mm x 15 mm magnet — for interior frames rather than an exposed gate

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the RFDW-RM

Q.01

Bosch RFDW-RM: how is it fitted?

The transmitter goes into a hole drilled in the interior door or window frame, and the magnet assembly goes into the moving part opposite it. Break-away tabs allow a flush mount, or they can be left on for a surface mount.
Q.02

How close do the two halves have to be?

The magnet must stay within 14 mm of the reed contact while the door is closed. Once the gap exceeds 14 mm, an alarm signal is sent to the receiver.
Q.03

What is in the box?

The detector, the magnet assembly, an AAA lithium battery, a hardware pack and an installation guide.
Q.04

What receiver does it need?

A RADION receiver on the alarm panel, such as the RFRC-STR2, which supports the recessed door and window contact. It reports on 433.42 MHz with no cable to the panel.
Q.05

How long does the battery last?

Up to five years from the supplied AAA lithium cell at 1.5 VDC. The contact is supervised for low battery, so the panel reports it before the zone goes quiet.
Q.06

Will it work in a steel or aluminium frame?

Test it first. Installation on metal surfaces can affect the radio propagation pattern of the transceiver, so the position should be proven before the hole is finished.
Q.07

What is the difference from the RFDW-SM?

This one is recessed into the frame and alarms once the gap exceeds 14 mm. The RFDW-SM is the surface-mount contact sold here, which suits a frame that cannot be drilled; see its own page for its figures.
Q.08

Does it report if someone opens it?

Yes. It transmits a tamper signal when the cover is removed from the detector, and it is supervised for that condition as well as for a low battery.
Q.09

Can it go on an outdoor gate?

No. It is intended for indoor use, with a functional range of -10 to 49 degrees Celsius at up to 93% non-condensing humidity.
