01Overview
What the PFPR-12 is
The Bosch RFPR-12 exists for the rooms that a wired detector never reaches: a brick extension, a rented house, a room finished after the alarm went in. It covers 12 m x 12 m on 433.42 MHz and reports to a RADION receiver on the panel, so nothing has to be chased through a wall.
Pets are the reason most of these are bought. The detector distinguishes a dog of up to 13 kg, two dogs totalling 27 kg, or up to ten cats, so an animal left inside overnight does not set the system off. Behind that is Motion Analyzer II, which weighs the timing, amplitude, duration and polarity of a signal against multiple thresholds, with three sensitivity settings for the room. A sealed optical chamber keeps drafts and insects out of the optics, and temperature compensation holds catch performance when the room temperature approaches body heat, which matters in an Australian summer.
Battery life comes from restraint. The detector runs on one CR123A lithium cell at 3 VDC for up to five years, helped by a three minute lockout that stops it transmitting a second alarm until three minutes have passed since the last one restored. The panel is told when the cell falls to the 2.4 V threshold, so the battery gets changed before the zone goes quiet.
Mounting is at 2.1 m to 2.7 m, flat on a wall, in a corner, or on a bracket: the B328 gimbal, the B335-3 low-profile swivel, or the B338 ceiling mount that swivels 7° up to 16° down and 45° either side. An external LED shows an alarm, and holding the tamper switch puts it into walk test for at least 90 seconds. Cover and wall tampers both report, so the detector cannot be opened or lifted off the wall unnoticed.
It is an indoor detector: 111 mm x 60 mm x 43 mm, 0.15 kg, IP30 and IK04, rated -10 °C to +55 °C and up to 93% non-condensing humidity. This is the version for Europe, Africa and Australia; the RFPR-12-A is the North and South American model. Where the room has curtains, the RFPR-C12 curtain version covers a narrow 12 m x 1.5 m pattern instead. The supplier warranty is 36 Months.

What arrives
The Bosch RFPR-12 comes as the detector in its white plastic housing, the version for Europe, Africa and Australia. The RADION receiver, the mounting brackets and any replacement CR123A battery are ordered separately.

Where to mount it
Fit it between 2.1 m and 2.7 m, flat on a wall surface or semi-flush, in a corner, or on a bracket: the B328 gimbal, the B335-3 low-profile swivel, or the B338 ceiling mount. Keep it indoors and dry, on a flat rigid surface.

Make the wall tamper work
A screw must be fitted in the designated wall-tamper slot, or the wall tamper will not function. Without it the detector can be lifted off the wall without the panel knowing.

Learning it into the panel
Add it at the codepad either by typing its nine-digit RF ID or by triggering the detector in auto mode. On an alphanumeric or touchscreen codepad the zone source has to be set to RF.

Testing on site
On power-up the detector runs a factory test mode for about ten seconds. Press and hold the tamper switch to enter walk test for at least 90 seconds, and watch the external LED as you walk the pattern.

Checking the radio path
Signal strength depends on the building and on what is inside it, including people, so test the detector where it will live rather than assuming the range. From Solution 2000 and 3000 firmware 2.1, the icon codepad can show RF signal strength for a zone.

When to call an electrician
None of this is mains work: the detector is battery powered and reports by radio. Use a licensed electrician only if the job involves new or altered fixed wiring elsewhere in the installation.
