01Overview
What the RFDW-SM is
The Bosch RFDW-SM does the simplest job in an alarm system and does it without a cable. A magnetic reed contact inside the transmitter watches a magnet fitted to the moving part of a door or window; when the two separate by more than 20 mm, an alarm signal goes to the receiver on 433.42 MHz.
The detail that saves time on site is that there is a reed contact on each side of the device, so the magnet assembly can sit on either side within that 20 mm. A door that opens the wrong way, or a window frame with the only flat surface on the left, does not force a rethink of the mounting.
It is supervised rather than silent. The panel is told about a low battery, a cover tamper, and the unit being pulled off its mounting surface, so a contact that has been removed or has gone flat is a reported event instead of a quiet gap in the perimeter. One AAA lithium cell at 1.5 VDC runs it for up to five years.
Mounting is conventional: the transmitter on the interior door or window frame, the magnet on the interior of the moving portion. Two things to watch. Metal surfaces can change the radio propagation pattern, so a steel frame deserves a test before the job is signed off, and the RFAC-DW-10 spacers are there for frames where the two halves do not line up.
The transmitter measures 19.5 mm x 82.55 mm x 12.8 mm with an 18.5 mm x 24.5 mm x 12.5 mm magnet, is rated IP30 and IK04 for indoor use from -10°C to +55°C at up to 93% non-condensing humidity, and carries CE and EN50131 approval. This is the version for Europe, Africa and Australia.
