Bosch RADION Wireless Surface Mount Contact Magnetic Reed Switch RFDW-SM

SKU: RFDW-SM
Description

The Bosch RFDW-SM is a wireless surface-mount magnetic reed switch from the RADION range, used to monitor a door or window and trigger your Bosch alarm when it is opened. The transmitter mounts on the frame and the magnet on the moving door or window; when they separate by more than 20 mm it sends an alarm signal to a RADION receiver, which passes it to the control panel. It runs for up to 5 years on a single replaceable AAA lithium battery. A RADION receiver and compatible Bosch panel are required and sold separately.

§ 01Overview

What the RFDW-SM is

The Bosch RFDW-SM is a wireless door and window contact from the RADION range, the simplest way to tell a Bosch alarm that an entry point has been opened. The slim transmitter fixes to the door or window frame and a matching magnet fits to the moving part; when the two separate by more than 20 mm the contact sends a wireless alarm signal. A reed contact on each side of the transmitter means you can mount the magnet on whichever side suits the opening.

It is built to be reliable and low-maintenance. The transmitter is supervised for low battery, cover tamper and removal from the wall, so the panel is told if someone interferes with it or it loses power. It communicates on 433.42 MHz and runs for up to 5 years on a single AAA lithium battery that you can replace yourself, with a factory test mode on power-up to help installation.

Two honest notes before you buy. It is wireless but not standalone: it needs a Bosch RADION receiver such as the B810 or RFRC-STR2, connected to a compatible Bosch panel like the Solution 2000 or 3000, to do anything. And it is intended for indoor use, so mount it where it is protected from rain and extreme temperatures. It is genuine Bosch stock with local warranty and support.

FeatureDetail
Frequency 433.42 MHz

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the RFDW-SM

Truly wireless entry protection

No cabling to the door or window — the contact transmits to the panel over RADION wireless, so it suits retrofits and finished walls.

Flexible mounting

A reed contact on both sides lets you fit the magnet on whichever side of the opening is convenient, with a 20 mm trigger gap.

Tamper and supervision built in

Cover and wall tamper switches plus low-battery supervision keep the panel informed if the contact is interfered with or running low.

Years between battery changes

Up to 5 years on a single user-replaceable AAA lithium cell keeps maintenance to a minimum.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Front and back doors

Monitor entry doors so the alarm trips the moment a door is opened while the system is armed.

Windows

Protect opening windows in bedrooms and living areas without running cable to each frame.

Retrofitting an existing alarm

Add wireless entry points to a Bosch Solution system that has a RADION receiver, with no wall damage.

Internal doors and cupboards

Watch an internal door, store room or cupboard where a wired contact would be hard to run.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One RFDW-SM transmitter with an AAA lithium battery and the matching magnet assembly. A RADION receiver and compatible Bosch panel are required and not included.

02

Installation requirements

Mount the transmitter on the fixed door or window frame and the magnet on the moving part, within 20 mm of the contact and on whichever side suits. Keep it indoors and away from weather, and avoid mounting on metal where possible as it can affect the signal. Enrol it to your RADION receiver, then test the open and tamper signals at the panel before arming.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the RFDW-SM

Q.01

Does the RFDW-SM work on its own?

No. It is a RADION wireless transmitter, so it needs a Bosch RADION receiver such as the B810 or RFRC-STR2, connected to a compatible Bosch control panel like the Solution 2000 or 3000. The contact sends its signal to the receiver, which reports it to the panel.
Q.02

How does it detect a door or window opening?

An internal magnetic reed switch watches a separate magnet fitted to the moving part of the door or window. When the magnet moves more than about 20 mm away from the contact, the unit transmits an alarm signal. You can mount the magnet on either the left or right side of the transmitter.
Q.03

Can I use it outdoors or on a gate?

It is intended for indoor use only and should be protected from rain, humidity and extreme temperatures. For an exposed opening you would need an outdoor-rated contact instead.
Q.04

How long does the battery last and can I change it myself?

It runs for up to 5 years on a single AAA lithium battery, which is user-replaceable. The system is supervised for low battery, so the panel warns you in good time before it goes flat.
Q.05

What happens if someone tampers with it?

It has both cover and wall tamper switches. If the cover is opened or the unit is pulled off its mounting surface, it transmits a tamper signal so the panel can respond even when the system is disarmed.
Q.06

Will it work on a metal door or frame?

It can, but mounting on metal can affect the radio signal pattern, so signal strength should be checked during installation. Where possible, position it to keep a clear wireless path back to the receiver.
Q.07

Which Bosch systems is it compatible with?

It is part of the RADION range and works with Bosch panels that have a RADION receiver fitted, such as the Solution 2000 and 3000 via a B810 or RFRC-STR2 receiver. It will not pair directly to a panel without a RADION receiver.
