What the DS-2DF8442IXS-AEL is

The Hikvision DS-2DF8442IXS-AEL is a 4 MP high-frame-rate PTZ speed dome built for ultra-long-range surveillance of large outdoor sites: rivers, roads, railways, airports, ports and open public areas.

A 1/1.8" sensor records 2560 x 1440 video, and the 42x optical zoom (6 to 252 mm) holds a wide overview and then reaches far down the site to pick out a person or a vehicle.

A powerful infrared array lights the scene up to 500 m, with Smart IR dimming close objects, and 140 dB Wide Dynamic Range keeps the picture readable where bright sky meets shaded ground.

The night image under infrared is black and white, as expected for an IR camera.

This model is the high-frame-rate (HFR) version of the 42x dome, so it streams smoother video of fast motion, which helps when you are tracking a moving vehicle at long zoom.

On-camera smart features include face capture, vehicle detection with number-plate, model and colour recognition, and smart events such as line crossing and intrusion.

Smart auto-tracking can lock onto a moving target and follow it, and a built-in gyroscope steadies the long zoom where the smallest vibration is magnified.

300 presets with patrol and pattern scans automate a tour of fixed views, and the 360-degree endless pan covers every direction from the mount.

It is built to sit out in the weather on a demanding site.

The metal housing is rated IP67 against dust and water and IK10 against impact (except the lens), with a heater for cold and damp, lightning and surge protection, and an operating range down to -40 degrees C.

This is a high-power camera: it runs on a 24 VAC supply or Hi-PoE, drawing up to 60 W, not a standard NVR PoE port.

It records to a network recorder or a microSD card up to 256 GB.

Fit it high on a solid pole, wall bracket or corner with a clear line down the site, so the 500 m infrared and 42x zoom are not blocked. A rigid mount keeps the distant view steady.

Does this version have a wiper?
The base DS-2DF8442IXS-AEL listed here does not advertise a wiper; the related -AELW model adds a rain-sensing wiper. All versions have a heater and demist for cold and damp. If a wiper is essential for a very wet site, ask us about the -AELW variant.

Record it to a high-bandwidth Hikvision NVR over the network for continuous footage, or to a microSD card up to 256 GB inside the camera. Choose an NVR with enough bandwidth for a 4 MP high-frame-rate stream.
