§ 07Questions

Frequently asked

Q.01

Does this camera require a PoE switch or injector, or can it run on standard power?

It supports both PoE (802.3at, Class 4) and 12V DC power. If connecting via a PoE NVR or PoE switch, no separate power supply is needed — just a single network cable handles both power and data.
Q.02

Will this camera work with my existing Hikvision NVR?

It is strongly recommended to pair this AcuSense Gen2 camera with a Hikvision I-series NVR for full AcuSense functionality. Older NVRs running the latest GUI3 firmware can still connect, but smart detection features must be configured directly through the camera's web interface rather than through the NVR.
Q.03

Which lens size should I choose — 2.8mm, 4mm, or 6mm?

The 2.8mm gives the widest view (110° horizontal) and suits entryways or smaller areas. The 4mm is the most popular all-rounder for driveways and yards. The 6mm is better for longer, narrower zones like laneways, offering detection range up to 140m.
Q.04

Can the strobe light and audible alarm trigger automatically when someone is detected?

Yes. When an intrusion or line-crossing event is detected and classified as a human or vehicle, the camera can automatically trigger the strobe and audio warning. This is configured via the camera's web interface under smart event linkage settings.
Q.05

Will the strobe or audible alarm go off for animals or moving trees?

The AcuSense deep learning engine filters out non-human, non-vehicle movement, reducing false alarms from animals, wind, or rain by up to 95%. False triggers can still occasionally occur, but are significantly lower than standard motion detection cameras.
Q.06

I'm experiencing motion blur at night — is this a known issue?

Yes, this is a reported issue with this model in low-light conditions. To reduce it, set the exposure to a shorter value (e.g. 1/200s or faster), switch bit rate control to CBR, and lower the 3D DNR level. Note that at 8MP on this sensor size, some night-time blur is a known trade-off versus a lower-resolution camera.
Q.07

Does this camera support local storage without an NVR?

Yes. It has a built-in microSD card slot supporting cards up to 512GB, so it can record locally without any NVR. It also supports NAS recording and auto network replenishment (ANR) if the network drops.
Q.08

Is this camera suitable for coastal or harsh Australian outdoor environments?

It carries an IP67 rating (dust-tight and water-resistant), making it suitable for typical Australian outdoor conditions including rain. However, Hikvision classifies this model as having no specific anti-corrosion protection, so it is not recommended for direct coastal or salt-air environments without additional precautions.
