§ 01Overview

What the RFUN is

The Bosch RFUN solves the awkward part of a wireless retrofit: the sensor that already exists and cannot be replaced. It is a wireless transmitter with an integrated magnetic reed switch, so it works as a door or window contact on its own, and a single alarm loop input that can be configured for virtually any normally open or normally closed external detector.

That input is what makes it useful. A reed switch already fitted to a roller door, a panic button under a counter, a pressure mat, a smoke detector relay: any of them can be wired into the loop over a short run of 0.65 mm to 1.5 mm cable, and the RFUN carries the signal the rest of the way on 433.42 MHz. The input can also take a supervised dry contact from an external device.

As a contact in its own right, the magnet can sit within 12.7 mm on either side of the transmitter, and the base is marked to show where it goes. The wide gap and the marked base make it forgiving on a door that has moved with the seasons.

Supervision covers the three things that would otherwise fail quietly: a low battery, a removed cover, and the unit being pulled off its mounting surface. One CR123A lithium cell at 3 VDC runs it for up to five years.

Mount the transmitter on an interior door or window frame with the magnet on the moving part. The housing is 33.02 x 82.55 x 19.5 mm with an 18.5 mm x 24.5 mm x 12.5 mm magnet, rated IP30 and IK04 for indoor use at up to 93% non-condensing humidity, and it carries RCM approval in Australia. The RFAC-UN-10 spacers are available in packs of ten for frames that do not sit level.

RFUN specifications

Bosch RFUN inputs — integrated magnetic reed switch plus a single alarm loop input — a wireless contact and a wireless input for an existing detector
Loop input — configurable for virtually any normally open or normally closed external detector, and supervised dry contacts — a roller-door switch or panic button gets on the alarm without a cable run
Wiring to the external device — 0.65 mm to 1.5 mm wire — a short tail from the transmitter to the sensor it is reading
Reed gap — magnet within 12.7 mm on either side, with the base marked to show the position — forgiving on a door that has shifted
Radio — 433.42 MHz to a RADION receiver — no cable between it and the panel
Supervision — low battery, cover tamper and removal from the mounting surface all reported — the failures that would otherwise be silent
Battery — one CR123A lithium cell at 3 VDC, up to five years — a change every few years, flagged by the panel first
Housing — 33.02 x 82.55 x 19.5 mm, IP30 and IK04, indoor use, RCM approved in Australia — an interior fitting with local approval

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the RFUN

Q.01

Bosch RFUN: what is it for?

It is a wireless transmitter with a built-in reed contact and a loop input. It reports a door or window opening on its own, and it can also carry the signal from a separate wired detector to the panel.
Q.02

What can I connect to the loop input?

Virtually any normally open or normally closed external detector, including a supervised dry contact from another device. A single alarm loop input is provided.
Q.03

What receiver does it need?

A RADION receiver on the alarm panel that lists the RFUN among the devices it accepts. It reports on 433.42 MHz, and the RFUN-A is a separate variant with its own receiver list.
Q.04

How close does the magnet have to be?

Within 12.7 mm of the transmitter, and it can sit on either side. The base carries marks that show where to position it.
Q.05

What cable does the loop input take?

Wire from 0.65 mm to 1.5 mm, which is a short tail between the transmitter and the device it is reading rather than a run back to the panel.
Q.06

How long does the battery last?

Up to five years from one CR123A lithium cell at 3 VDC. The transmitter is supervised for low battery, so the panel reports it before the zone goes quiet.
Q.07

What happens if it is removed from the wall?

It transmits a tamper signal. It is supervised for cover tamper and for removal from the mounting surface, as well as for a low battery.
Q.08

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is rated IP30 and IK04 for indoor use, at up to 93% non-condensing humidity, on an interior door or window frame.
Q.09

What if the frame and the door do not line up?

The RFAC-UN-10 spacers are made for that and are sold in packs of ten. The magnet still has to end up within 12.7 mm of the transmitter when the door is closed.
