§ 01Overview

What the DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW is

The Hikvision DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW is a long-range specialist: a 2 MP DarkFighter PTZ speed dome with an extreme 60x optical zoom (6 to 360 mm) and a laser illuminator that reaches up to 500 m in the dark.

It is made for ports, borders, highways, coastlines and large open grounds where you need to pick out a person or a vehicle at a distance no ordinary camera can cover.

The resolution is a deliberate trade: a large 1/1.2" sensor at 2 MP gathers far more light per pixel than a higher-megapixel chip, which is what makes the extreme low-light and long-range reach possible, rather than chasing pixel count.

A laser illuminator concentrates its light into a tight beam that follows the zoom, so it lights a distant target far more effectively than a flood of infrared; the night image is black and white under the laser.

Optical image stabilisation steadies the picture at 60x, where the smallest movement is hugely magnified, and 150 dB Wide Dynamic Range copes with bright water or sky against shade.

On-camera deep learning classifies people and vehicles, so auto-tracking 3.0 can lock onto a target and follow it, and the perimeter rules alarm on real targets rather than weather.

It is built for exposed, unattended sites.

A built-in wiper with rain-sensing auto control clears the window so the long zoom stays usable in rain, a heater and demist handle cold and damp, and the metal housing is rated IP67 against dust and water and IK10 against impact, with an operating range down to -40 degrees C.

This is a high-power camera that runs on PoE 802.3bt or a 36 VDC supply, not a standard NVR PoE port, and records to a network recorder or a microSD card.

Pair it with a high-bandwidth Hikvision NVR.

What the DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW

Extreme reach, day or night

A 60x optical zoom and a 500 m laser illuminator identify a target at a range no ordinary camera can cover, even in the dark.

Built for the lowest light

A large 1/1.2 inch 2 MP sensor and DarkFighter gather light where higher-megapixel cameras give up, for clean low-light video.

Steady at full zoom

Optical image stabilisation holds the picture at 60x, where the smallest vibration would otherwise make the view unusable.

Tracks targets, ignores weather

Human and vehicle detection drives auto-tracking 3.0 and keeps alarms to real targets, not rain, wind or sea spray.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Ports and coastlines

Watch a harbour or shoreline and identify a vessel, vehicle or person far out, with the laser reaching across the dark water.

Borders and highways

Cover a long border line or motorway from a high mount and lock onto a distant target with auto-tracking.

Quarries and open grounds

One camera with a 60x zoom and 500 m laser covers a vast open site that would need many fixed cameras.

Critical infrastructure perimeters

Give a control room an extreme-range eye over an airport, plant or reservoir boundary, day and night.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

In the box

Camera and mounting hardware with the quick start guide. A solid wall or pole bracket, an 802.3bt injector or 36VDC supply, microSD card and NVR are bought separately.

02

Mounting

A rigid mount is essential at 60x zoom. Fit it high on a solid pole, heavy wall bracket or corner with a clear, unobstructed line down the site so the laser and zoom can reach.

03

Power and network

This is a high-power PTZ. A standard NVR PoE port (802.3af/at) does not supply enough power, so use an 802.3bt (PoE++) injector or a 36 VDC supply at the camera, bought separately, and run the video back to the recorder over the network.

04

Setup tips

Set preset positions and patrols for the views you want, enable human and vehicle detection and auto-tracking, and aim the laser along a clear line to its target for the best night reach.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW

Q.01

Why is the DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW only 2 MP if it is a high-end camera?

The 2 MP resolution is a deliberate choice. A large 1/1.2 inch sensor at 2 MP collects much more light per pixel than a higher-megapixel chip, which is what gives the extreme low-light sensitivity and long-range reach. At 60x zoom and 500 m laser range, that light-gathering matters more than raw pixel count.
Q.02

How does the laser night vision differ from infrared?

A laser illuminator focuses its light into a tight beam that follows the zoom, so it lights a distant target far more effectively than a wide flood of infrared. That is why it reaches up to 500 metres. The night image is black and white under the laser, like an infrared camera.
Q.03

How far can it really see?

Hikvision rates it to detect movement at around 4965 metres and to identify a person at about 497 metres at full zoom, under good conditions. The 60x zoom and 500 m laser are built for the longest perimeters, coastlines and open grounds.
Q.04

Is the image steady at 60x zoom?

Yes, as far as a camera can manage at that magnification. It has optical image stabilisation, which steadies the picture where the smallest vibration is hugely magnified, and a rigid pole or wall mount is essential to get the best from the extreme zoom.
Q.05

Does it track people and vehicles?

Yes. On-camera deep learning classifies people and vehicles, and auto-tracking 3.0 can lock onto a target and follow it across the scene. The perimeter rules alarm on real targets rather than wind or weather.
Q.06

How is it powered?

It runs on PoE 802.3bt or a 36 VDC supply, drawing up to 60 W. A standard NVR PoE port (802.3af or at) does not supply enough power, so use an 802.3bt injector or a 36 VDC supply at the camera and run the video over the network.
Q.07

Is it suitable for a coastal or wet site?

Yes. A built-in wiper with rain-sensing control keeps the window clear, and the IP67 / IK10 body with a heater and demist handles rain, cold and impact, with an operating range down to -40 degrees C.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

01

Record it on a high-bandwidth NVR

Send it to a Hikvision NVR such as the 16-channel DS-7616NI-M2/16P or, for a larger site, the 32-channel DS-7732NI-M4/24P, and add a surveillance drive like the 8 TB drive for continuous footage.

02

Power it correctly

This is a high-power PTZ. A standard NVR PoE port (802.3af/at) does not supply enough power, so use an 802.3bt (PoE++) injector or a 36 VDC supply at the camera, bought separately, and run the video back to the recorder over the network.

03

Add a high-resolution companion

Where you also want 4K detail at long range, pair it with the 8 MP DS-2DF8A836IX-AEL on the same recorder.
