§ 01Overview
What the DS-2CE72KF3T is
The Hikvision DS-2CE72KF3T is a 3K ColorVu turret that brings full-colour night video to a coax-cabled system without a network upgrade.
Where an ordinary infrared camera turns black and white after dark, ColorVu keeps colour around the clock, so you record the colour of a car, a jacket or a bag instead of a grey shape.
It does this with a large 1/1.8" sensor, an F1.0 aperture and a 0.0003 lux low-light rating, backed by a white supplement light that reaches up to 40 m when the scene is truly dark.
The 3K resolution of 2960 x 1665 sits just above 5 MP, giving noticeably more detail than a 1080p camera, and 130 dB Wide Dynamic Range holds the picture together where a bright entrance meets a shaded interior.
The 2.8 mm fixed lens gives a wide view of about 112 degrees, well suited to a shopfront, an entrance or a courtyard.
Two points to plan around: it is an analog camera, so it connects to a DVR over coax and runs on a local 12 VDC supply rather than PoE or an IP NVR; and because the colour image relies on the F1.0 lens and the white light, give it some ambient or supplement light for the best night results.
The metal turret is IP67 rated for outdoor use.
Record it to a Hikvision DVR that supports the 3K image.

§ 04Why choose this
Built for the way you actually use the DS-2CE72KF3T
Upgrade without rewiring
It runs a 3K colour image over existing coax and works with almost any HD analog DVR, so there is no network cabling to pull.
More detail than 1080p
At 2960 x 1665 it sits above 5 MP, giving sharper, wider detail than a standard 1080p analog camera.
Built to deter and last
A steady white-light alarm helps deter loiterers and the IP67 metal turret stands up to weather on exposed walls.
§ 05Where it fits
Right at home in these scenarios
Retail and shopfronts
Full-colour night video records clothing and vehicle colour after closing, and 130 dB WDR balances a bright glass front against a dim interior.
Home entrances and driveways
Colour detail at night helps identify people and cars at a gate or front door where an infrared camera would only show grey shapes.
Hospitality and courtyards
The wide 2.8 mm view covers a courtyard or outdoor dining area in colour, useful for both security and day-to-day oversight.
Analog ColorVu upgrades
A simple way to add 24/7 colour to an existing coax system without moving to IP cameras and an NVR.
§ 06Setup
Installation & setup
In the box
Camera, mounting template and screws, and the quick start guide. A DVR, coax cabling and a 12 VDC power supply are bought separately.
Mounting
Surface-mount the turret to a wall, eave or ceiling and angle it across the area you want in colour. The IP67 body suits exposed positions.
Wiring and power
Run coax back to the DVR for video and a 12 VDC supply for power. Set the output format to match the DVR before fixing the camera.
Lighting tips
For the cleanest colour at night, allow some ambient light or let Smart Light add white light. Set the white light to switch on only when needed to limit light spill.

§ 09Bundles
Recommended packages
Record it on a Turbo HD DVR
Connect it to a Hikvision 8 MP Turbo HD recorder such as the iDS-7208HTHI-M2/S, which supports the 3K image, then add a surveillance drive like the 6 TB drive for continuous footage.
Match it with an 8 MP companion
Where you also need a long, zoomable view, run it alongside the motorised DS-2CE79U7T-AIT3ZF on the same DVR.
Power and cabling
Use a 12 VDC supply at the camera and your existing coax back to the DVR. There is no PoE on an analog camera, so plan a local power source at each position.
