Description

The Bosch CM255B is the way into a Solution panel whose installer PIN nobody knows: a single-use plug-in key that resets the installer PIN and RAS security PIN on a Solution 6000, so the panel is taken over on site instead of being unwired and returned for defaulting.

§ 01Overview

What the CM255B is

The Bosch CM255B exists for one situation. A Solution panel arrives second-hand, or an installer moves on, and the installer PIN is gone. When factory defaulting has been disabled in panel programming, the current installer PIN is needed to default the panel, which leaves two options: return the panel to the supplier, or unlock it in the field with this key.

The key plugs into the 10-pin connector marked Serial Port or Direct Link Port. A steady green LED means the key is good; red and green flashing alternately means defaulting has been initiated and the key can be removed and thrown away; a steady red LED means the key has already been used and cannot be used again.

What gets reset depends on the panel. On a Solution 6000 it unlocks the installer PIN and the RAS security PIN, after which the panel is entered with the default installer PIN 1234 followed by MENU. On a Solution 16i, 16+ or 64 it performs a complete factory default, and on a Solution 144 it defaults only the installer code and RAS PIN.

It is a one-time-use device, discarded after use, and it carries no warranty because of its disposable nature. Budget one key per panel, and keep it for lost codes: a panel whose installer PIN is known does not need defaulting at all.

CM255B specifications

Bosch CM255B purpose — plug-in factory default module — a panel with an unknown installer PIN is recovered on site, not unwired and returned
Solution 6000 — unlocks the installer PIN and RAS security PIN — the way back into programming when the codes are lost
Other panels — complete factory default on Solution 16i, 16+ and 64, installer code and RAS PIN only on Solution 144 — know which result to expect before plugging in
Connection — 10-pin connector marked Serial Port or Direct Link Port, orientation matters — no wiring changes to the panel
Indicators — green steady is good, red and green alternating is defaulting under way, red steady is already used — the key reports its own state
Single use — one time use only, discard after use — one key per panel
Warranty and marks — no warranty because it is disposable, N12138 and RoHS marked — a consumable, priced as one

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the CM255B

Q.01

What does the Bosch CM255B do on a Solution 6000?

The Bosch CM255B unlocks both the installer PIN and the RAS security PIN, so an installer can get back into programming when the codes are unknown. It is the field alternative to returning the panel to the supplier for defaulting.
Q.02

Can I use it more than once?

No. It is a one-time-use device: once the red and green LEDs flash alternately to show defaulting has started, remove and discard it. A second panel needs a second key.
Q.03

How do I know if a key is still good?

A steady green LED means the key is good. A steady red LED means it has already been used and will not work again.
Q.04

Where does it plug in?

Into the panel's 10-pin connector marked Serial Port or Direct Link Port.
Q.05

What happens after the reset on a Solution 6000?

The panel accepts the default installer PIN, 1234, followed by MENU to enter installer programming. Set a new installer PIN before leaving site.
Q.06

What does it reset on other Solution panels?

A complete factory default on the Solution 16i, 16+ and 64, and only the installer code and RAS PIN on the Solution 144.
Q.07

What if factory defaulting has been disabled on the panel?

Then the current installer PIN is required to default the panel from the keypad. Without it the panel goes back to the supplier for defaulting, or is unlocked in the field with this key.
Q.08

Does it come with a warranty?

No. There is no warranty because of its disposable nature.
