§ 01Overview
What the RFSM2-A is
The Bosch RFSM2-A is the smoke detector in the RADION wireless family. It senses smoke photoelectrically and also watches the temperature, with a fixed heat alarm at +57 °C and a rate-of-rise alarm when the room climbs 8.3 °C above +40 °C, so a fast, hot fire is caught even before the smoke builds.
It warns the room as well as the panel. The built-in sounder gives at least 85 dBA at 3 m when fire is detected, and alarm and supervisory messages go through the RADION receiver to the control panel. Built to the UL268 7th edition standard, it is meant for the living areas where fires most often start.
Day to day it needs little attention. Two CR123A batteries ship installed and give a typical battery life of up to 10 years. The optical chamber checks its own dust level every 40 seconds and compensates as dust builds up or is cleaned off, a sealed fine mesh screen keeps insects and dust out of the chamber, and the large test and silence button tests the sensor, electronics, battery and alarm or silences a nuisance alarm. When the detector reaches the end of its life, an audible and visual indicator says so.
The radio link is supervised for sensor health, low battery and tamper, and a tamper switch reports if the detector is taken off its twist-on mounting plate. It needs a B810 wireless SDI2 bus interface at the panel; on a Solution 6000 the panel must run firmware V2.53.19 or later, which added support for it.
It is an indoor detector for 4.4 °C to +55 °C, not a stand-alone household smoke alarm: without a receiver and a compatible panel it only sounds locally. It is the North and South American model, approved to UL 268, FCC and Industry Canada, so check with your installer which building rules apply to its use in Australia.

Installation & setup
What's in the box
The Bosch RFSM2-A arrives as the detector with its radio module and two CR123A batteries installed, plus two mounting screws and two wall anchors. The B810 receiver and the panel are separate.
Receiver and panel firmware
Fit a B810 wireless SDI2 bus interface at the panel. On a Solution 6000, update the panel to firmware V2.53.19 or later before adding the detector, because that release added support for it.
Where to mount it
Mount it indoors, in a dry location, on a flat rigid ceiling or wall surface using the twist-on mounting plate and the supplied screws and anchors. Keep it within its 4.4 °C to +55 °C operating range and away from the locations the installation manual says to avoid.
No cable, but test the radio
There is no cable run to plan. Test the radio path from the intended spot before fixing the detector, then learn it into the panel as an RF zone.
Test and end of life
Press the test and silence button after installation to test the sensor, electronics, battery and alarm, and repeat the test regularly. Replace the detector when its audible and visual end-of-life indicator says so.
When to call an electrician
The detector is battery powered and needs no electrical work. Use a licensed electrician only if the wider job involves fixed mains wiring, and a licensed security installer for the panel programming.
