§ 01Overview

What the NVR502-16B-P16-IQ is

Uniview NVR502-16B-P16-IQ is a 16-ch PoE network video recorder designed to sit at the centre of an IP surveillance system. Its PoE budget is Max 30W for single port, Max 240W in total under IEEE 802.3at, IEEE 802.3af, while incoming bandwidth is Smart Off: 320Mbps; Smart On: 160Mbps.

Recording and viewing use separate capacity limits. It records supported resolutions up to 16MP, while live decoding is rated at 2 x 16MP@30, 4 x 4K@30 or 16 x 1080P@30 with Smart off. With Smart on, incoming bandwidth changes to 160Mbps and the decoding choices change, so a fully loaded high-resolution system must stay within both active limits.

The second storage interface is the reason to choose this model over a single-bay recorder. Its 2 SATA Interfaces accept Up to 16TB for each HDD, and the drives can operate as RAID 1 so a failed disk does not take the recordings with it, or as a disk group with redundant recording for selected channels. Both configurations are available through the recorder's storage settings.

The IQ functions run on the recorder: Smart Intrusion Prevention on 4-ch, Ultra Motion Detection on 8-ch, face detection with up to 50,000 face pictures in total, and searches for images, human bodies and motor vehicles. Its 8-ch alarm input and 2-ch alarm output provide external alarm connections for compatible equipment.

The limits are clear: it accepts 16-ch IP video input, not more, and its PoE interface uses 16 RJ45 10M/100M self-adaptive Ethernet Interface. Power is AC 100~240V, and the working range is -10 °C ~ 50 °C (14 °F ~ 122 °F) at ≤ 90% RH (non-condensing), so the installation location must remain within those conditions.

Does the Uniview NVR502-16B-P16-IQ come with a hard drive?
No hard drive is included. It has 2 SATA Interfaces with Up to 16TB for each HDD, and recording requires at least one fitted drive. Smart functions require a drive in Slot 1 with normal status, while overwrite must be enabled if recording should continue after free space reaches zero.

How many cameras can I run on the NVR502-16B-P16-IQ?
It accepts 16-ch IP video input and provides 16 RJ45 10M/100M self-adaptive Ethernet Interface for PoE connections, which means up to sixteen cameras. If a live-view pane displays No Resource, the camera resolution has exceeded the active decoding capacity. Enabling Sub Stream First reduces decoding demand by displaying sub streams instead of main streams.

What changes when I switch the smart functions on?
Incoming bandwidth changes from Smart Off: 320Mbps to Smart On: 160Mbps. The available decoding combinations also change, so camera streams must remain within the active bandwidth and decoding limits. Smart functions require a drive in Slot 1 with normal status.

What does RAID 1 do, and how is redundant recording different?
RAID 1 mirrors recordings across two hard disks so one remains available if the other fails. This protection uses half of the combined drive capacity. Redundant recording instead saves recordings to both the normal and redundant disks at the same time.

Do I need a separate PoE switch, and how should the camera cabling be arranged?
A separate switch is unnecessary when compatible cameras connect directly to the recorder. Each PoE port is intended for one camera, with Max 30W for single port and Max 240W in total under IEEE 802.3at, IEEE 802.3af. Plan each cable route for the selected camera and cable, and connect any required switch through the external network rather than a recorder PoE port.

Which cameras and lenses suit the NVR502-16B-P16-IQ, and does the recorder control night vision?
It supports mainstream cameras of ONVIF conformance using Profile S, Profile G, Profile T and RTSP protocols. Lens selection and night behaviour depend on the selected camera rather than the recorder. Before connecting a camera to PoE, confirm that its PoE protocol and power consumption fit the single-port and total power limits.

How do I use EZView and keep the firmware current?
Turn on EZCloud under Menu>Network>Basic>EZCloud on the recorder or Setup>EZCloud in its web interface, then add the device in EZView. Allow time for the cloud connection to complete before opening live view. Firmware upgrades are user-initiated through Check New Version in the web interface or Upgrade by Cloud on the recorder.
