Description

The Dahua HAC-HDBW2501RP-Z is a 5MP Starlight HDCVI vandal dome - an analogue (coax) camera, not an IP/PoE one. It carries video over standard coaxial cable to a Dahua HDCVI or 4-in-1 Turbo-HD DVR, which makes it the simple way to upgrade an existing analogue/coax system to 5MP without recabling.

Key points

§ 01Overview

What the HAC-HDBW2501RP-Z-27135 is

The Dahua HAC-HDBW2501RP-Z is a 5MP Starlight Pro HDCVI vandal dome.

The most important thing to understand is that it is an analogue camera: video travels over a single coaxial cable to a DVR, not over a network cable to an NVR.

That is exactly why people buy it - it lets you lift an older coax CCTV system to 5MP detail by swapping the cameras and the DVR while reusing the existing cabling.

Because it is a 4-in-1 model, a small DIP switch on the lead selects HDCVI, AHD, HDTVI or CVBS output, so it works with almost any modern HD analogue DVR, including 4-in-1 Turbo-HD recorders.

A 1/2.8" Starlight sensor and true 120dB WDR keep colour usable in very low light (down to 0.005 lux) and balance harsh backlight, while Smart IR provides up to 30 metres of night vision without blowing out close subjects.

The motorised 2.7-13.5mm lens is set remotely from the DVR.

It runs on 12V DC only - there is no PoE and no Ethernet port - so plan a power supply at the camera or use HDCVI PoC where the DVR supports it.

HDCVI also carries audio-in over the same coax.

The aluminium housing is IK10 vandal-resistant and IP67-rated, with a 4kV lightning rating and a -30 to +60 degree range, suiting shopfronts, building entries and exposed walls.

If you have an IP/PoE system instead, choose a network dome such as a WizSense model.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the HAC-HDBW2501RP-Z-27135

Upgrade coax to 5MP

It reuses your existing coaxial cabling, so an older analogue system jumps to 5MP detail by swapping cameras and the DVR - no network recabling.

Fits almost any DVR

A DIP switch selects HDCVI, AHD, HDTVI or CVBS, so it pairs with nearly any modern HD analogue or 4-in-1 recorder.

Clear in hard light and low light

A Starlight sensor and true 120dB WDR hold colour to 0.005 lux and tame backlight at a glass entry, with 30m Smart IR at night.

Built to take a hit

An IK10 vandal-rated, IP67 aluminium dome with 4kV lightning protection suits exposed walls and public entries.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Analogue system upgrades

Replace ageing 720p/1080p analogue domes with 5MP on the same coax run and a 4-in-1 DVR.

Shopfronts and building entries

The vandal-resistant dome and WDR handle a bright glass entrance and knocks from passing foot traffic.

Long coax runs

HDCVI carries 5MP up to about 700 metres over coax, suiting sites where the DVR is a long way from the camera.

Sites without network cabling

Where running Cat6 and a PoE NVR is impractical, a coax dome plus a 12V supply is the simpler retrofit.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Confirm it suits your system

This is an analogue HDCVI camera. It needs a Dahua HDCVI or 4-in-1 Turbo-HD DVR and coax cable - it will not connect to an IP/PoE NVR.

02

Run coax and power

Run RG59/RG6 coax to the DVR and provide a 12V DC supply at the camera (or use HDCVI PoC where the DVR supports it).

03

Mount and aim

Fix the dome to a wall or ceiling, set the motorised 2.7-13.5mm lens from the DVR, and aim across the area to cover.

04

Set the format

If the picture does not appear, use the DIP switch on the lead to select HDCVI, AHD, TVI or CVBS to match the DVR input, then match the channel resolution.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the HAC-HDBW2501RP-Z-27135

Q.01

Is this an IP camera I can plug into my NVR?

No. It is an analogue HDCVI camera that uses coaxial cable and a DVR. It has no Ethernet port and no PoE, so it will not connect to an IP/PoE NVR.
Q.02

What recorder do I need for it?

A Dahua HDCVI DVR or any 4-in-1 Turbo-HD DVR that accepts HDCVI, AHD, HDTVI or CVBS input. A DIP switch on the lead selects the matching format.
Q.03

Why choose analogue over IP?

It lets you upgrade an existing coax CCTV system to 5MP by reusing the cabling, which avoids the cost and disruption of pulling new network cable for an IP system.
Q.04

How is it powered?

It runs on 12V DC at the camera, or HDCVI PoC where the DVR supports it. There is no PoE because it is not a network camera.
Q.05

How far can the coax run?

HDCVI carries 5MP video up to about 700 metres over coaxial cable, or around 300 metres over UTP with a balun, which is well beyond most installs.
Q.06

Does it record in colour at night?

It uses Smart IR up to 30 metres, so night footage is black and white in the dark. The Starlight sensor keeps colour in low ambient light before the IR takes over.
Q.07

Is it tough enough for a public entry?

Yes. The aluminium dome is IK10 vandal-resistant and IP67 weatherproof with 4kV lightning protection, suiting exposed walls and shopfronts.
Q.08

Can it carry audio?

Yes. HDCVI supports one audio-in channel over the same coaxial cable, so you can record sound alongside video if your DVR supports it.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

01

Record it on a 4-in-1 DVR

Pair it with an HD analogue DVR that accepts HDCVI/AHD/TVI/CVBS, such as the iDS-7208HTHI-M2/S 8-channel Turbo-HD DVR (set the channel to CVI or AHD).

02

Add storage

Fit a surveillance-grade 2TB or 6TB drive in the DVR for continuous 5MP recording.

03

Match the rest of the system

Use the same 5MP HDCVI range across the site so every channel records at matching detail on one DVR.

04

Prefer IP instead

If your site is network-based, choose an IP/PoE dome such as the HAC-HDBW2501EP WizSense model rather than this coax camera.
