What the CM704B is

The Bosch CM704B is a zone expansion module that lets a Bosch Solution panel watch more detectors than its on-board zones allow. Each CM704B gives eight extra physical zone inputs, and with double-end-of-line wiring that becomes up to 16 zones per module, so you can scale a system up as a building or its security needs grow. It suits the Solution 16i and the Solution 6000 panels.

Because it is LAN-based, it is flexible to place. It connects to the panel over a four-wire RS485 LAN and can sit in the main enclosure or be mounted remotely close to a group of detectors, which saves running every detector cable back to the panel. It can draw power from the panel LAN or from a local supply (the input is current-limited to 1 A), and a separate tamper input means it can live in its own enclosure without using up a detection zone for cabinet tamper.

It is built to be installer-friendly. A status LED flashes when the module is communicating correctly and goes steady on a communications fault, a zone-power LED shows the zone terminals are powered and not overloaded, and a service code-pad connection lets a technician plug a keypad in locally for maintenance when the module is away from the panel. Each module is given its own address on a three-way dip switch and is recognised automatically by the panel. It is genuine Bosch stock with local 3-year warranty.

What's in the box

One CM704B zone expansion module (PCB). The control panel, enclosure, cabling and any local power supply are not included.

Installation requirements

A licensed installer mounts the PCB in the panel enclosure or a remote box, connects it to the panel over the four-wire RS485 LAN, and sets its address on the three-way dip switch. Power it from the panel LAN or a local supply (input current-limited to 1 A), wire the zone inputs with the chosen end-of-line configuration for 8 or 16 zones, and use the separate tamper input for cabinet tamper. Keep LAN runs within 300 m (security cable) or 1500 m (Belden 8723).
